If you just let it drop you're going to have fun trying to pull it back up to put the keepers back on when you reassemble. Use compressed air or a rope. There's a reason for them to be stupid.

Chances are your tach is reading high.

The red line is just a spot of paint anyway, doesn't have much to do with the limits of the engine.

The pump won't run for more than 2 seconds while the engine isn't running. Jumper the fuel pump relay or the oil pressure switch to keep it running.

The sump is behind the crossmember so the depth doesn't matter, just the shape.

Only California cars came with a 305, and it was an LG4. The L82 was the "high-performance" 350 but it only had about 220 HP.

New valve springs are a good idea anyway to replace the tired 35...

The XE268 is about as much cam as you can fit on unmodified stock heads, and as much as you'd want on a stock converter.

HEI isn't capacitive discharge, it's inductive.
