Converting from EST To Vacuum Advance Distributor

Hey guys, I have a Miniram and AFR set up and I want to go with a vacuum advance HEI distributor and an MSD 6AL2 igniton box.

I think that this will require a crank trigger so that computer will fire the injectors. The only problem is, the crank triggers that I've looked at are pretty expensive, around $250.

Is there a cheaper alternative? Or would I be forced to buy one for $250?

Also, what else would I need to complete this conversion?

I am using the 870 ECU by the way.

Thanks!

The cheaper alternative is to keep the timing electronic.

The timing tables are difficult and take too long to tune on the 870 ECU.

Get a different ECU. Get rid of that Stone Age stock crap. A mech dist is The Wrong Answer. No matter what the question is.

It's easier and quicker than messing with weights and springs.

For your setup ,most would have got rid of the clunky , slow '870 and upgraded to the much faster '165 ECM from a 86 - 89 TPI

"One major problem when tuning for this ECM is that the diagnostic data is transmitted at only 160 BAUD!.
This works out to about a 1.25 second interval between the 25 Bytes of data.
I have only been able to get about 6 to 8 data samples during a Quarter-Mile DragStrip run which you can imagine does not
provide much feedback for tuning.

The ALDL data rate of the 1227165 (165) ECM can supply diagnostic data at 8192 BAUD. The data stream of 64 Bytes cycles through
every 62.5 milliseconds (16 per second) at this BAUD rate.
"

Maybe you should consider the FAST system that only does fuel control ?
