1980 350 cam

Hey guys,
Pulling the motor from my girlfriends 1980 vette 350 in a few days, While im in there gonna throw a cam in it.
engine is over all stock but ill give you the few things that are done so i can get the best cam for it. 1980 350, performer intake, 670 street advenger holley carb, long tube headers, true duels, stock converter, stock heads. She's mainly just street driving it but she is gonna run it at the track alittle on the weekends the cam iv picked out is comp XE268H-10. 268/280 duration, .477/.480 lift, what do you guys think? work alright for her basically stock set up?
THanks .

Re: 1980 350 cam

The XE268 is about as much cam as you can fit on unmodified stock heads, and as much as you'd want on a stock converter.

It'll work, but a 1980 L48 is only about 190 HP to start with because of the heads, so don't expect it to be a rocket.

Re: 1980 350 cam

would that cam be alright though with current set up? we are considering a set of vortec heads in the near future as well, just not right off.

Re: 1980 350 cam

and the car goes great for her, when we bought it i really wasnt expecting much power wise but i was kinda surprised, not a race car by any means but she turned 9.3 @ 75 mph in the 1/8 dead stock leaving it right in drive. Not to to bad. ALl things considered.

Re: 1980 350 cam

That cam would be fine. Check the valveguide clearance when you install it.

Re: 1980 350 cam

'80 vette 350 came with '624 heads-AFAIK,2 350s were avalible in 1980-std L48 and L82 upgrade version with~230 HP,i think L82 might have had 2.02 intake valves on it's '624s.If you take the heads off and intend to reinstall them, check them for warping or cracks as those heads are known for those
problems to occur.

Re: 1980 350 cam

Only California cars came with a 305, and it was an LG4. The L82 was the "high-performance" 350 but it only had about 220 HP.

New valve springs are a good idea anyway to replace the tired 35 year-old ones. It's the retainer-to-valveguide clearance that's more likely to be close.

I have one of the 5000ish 1980 L82 cars produced. Did not have the original L82 or TH350 in it when I got it. Put a 350ish HP 305 and a powerglide in it and it has run 12.90s @ 108-109 MPH on a 2.3s 60'.
