rebuilding a 700r4 in stages?
Quick question guys. I got a rebuildable core for my 91 that i'd like to beef up. My plans are for daily driver status but will need to be able to handle some boost/squeeze. I can't afford an entire rebuild kit at this time but once i have the trans apart how would i go about rebuilding it in stages/over time? Pretty much going from the tailshaft to the front pump. What parts should i replace as i'm going? Any help would be great.

Just wait into you can do it all at once.
Which parts you replace depends on which parts are worn.

What you're proposing on doing doesn't make sense.
It'll take the same amount of time to do it in stages as it would to just save your change and do it all at once.

I'm not understanding either. I've rebuilt several 700's, and it doesn't make sense to me. In order to do anything you are going to have to remove the valvebody and the pump, there is very little that you can do by removing the tailshaft housing. Almost everything inside comes out the front behind the pump.
The only thing that I can think of that makes any sense is that you need/have to replace some burnt clutches or the 2-4 band, and would like to later throw some hard parts at it (sun shell, pump, etc.) but mostly want/need to get it back operational now. Honestly, I really don't like doing the same job repeatedly and would rather just rebuild something once.
This would be like rebuilding your engine just to replace the rings.... then later replace the bearings.... then later on the camshaft..... then eventually the lifters.....

Find one of the 700R4 rebuild videos. Will give you a better idea of where you need to go.

What i mean is tearing the trans down completely and rebuilding it from the bottom up over time. Not fix this, put it back together then tear it down again. I would have the trans in a clean safe area off by itself until it was finished by pieceing it together slowly.
