I had the same problem. I reccomend 7m polishing compound, use it exactly how the directions tell you to... cut it with water and keep cutting it with water until it's not doing anything anymore......

It's all about combustion chamber design... ported 305 heads, even if they flow more than vortec heads or any other performance head, will never make equal or more HP... the improved design of race...

my buildup is looking at 400 foot pounds at the flywheel, and arond 350 HP at the flywheel... will I break anything with that setup?

if you've got an ECM, you need a controlled...
if you've got an ECM, you need a controlled distrib and a controlled carb.. make sure eerything is hook up rght
if you don't have an ECM, you need to make sure you have a vacuum advance distrib...

I'd say the 30lbers are fine, Pressure should be in the 48-50PSI range with no vacuum on the FPR... after that, let ed fool with it.... your FP might be too...
