4th gen rear in a 3rd?
Ok, I've got a 3.42 open now behind the 6. I just got a set of Salad Shooter 4th gen rims (without knowing about the damn b/s difference - remind me to smack GM for changing it) and figured hey - the 3rd gen rears are weak. I'll just switch to a 4th gen rear! What different 4th gen rears were available, behind the 3.4? Anyone know? I'd like a 3.42 Posi setup...

save your money on the rear. you have better gears than most of them. get a posi unit, or powertrax unit.
only way your gonna break the rear is if you put a realy built motor in in, & you're tranny will most likely break first.

Can't you use spacers to make the rims fit? I could've Sworn I heard something about that. Maybe do a search on the suspension/chassis/brakes forum?

i got my 94 Z28 rearend for $200
it was extremely easy to put in
the 3rd gen and 4th gen rear are the exactly the same except for the 4th gen rear being a tad bit lighter
the 4th gen rears are not nessacerily stronger though
i bought mine because:
i wanted rear disc brakes
i wanted posi
my Z28 had a 2.73 rear and i wanted something better than that
(the 4th gen rear i put in has 3.23's)
plus when i pulled the old rear out, i discovered the posi was shot anyway
hope i helped

correct, about 2".
4th gen rear, combined with 2" spacers in the front - use 4th gen wheels.
