how to get oxydization off?

a friend of mine is picking up a sweet 90 iroc for 3000, the only thing wrong is there is a big part of the hood that has oxydization (sp?) on it, and a small part on the rood and spoiler. anyway to get this off besides a new paint job and make sure it looks nice?

First start with a washing in Dawn soap.
Then use a clay bar.
AFter that, get Formula 113.

You could have it buffed too and then put a good coat of wax like F113 on it. That would probably last longer and look better than just using the 133 but it would be a little bit more expensive.

I had to use a rubbing compound and ALOT of elbow grease.

This was after the dawn wax. After I buffed it with the rubbing compound I did alot of waxing. Remember that you're taking off paint when you use a rubbing compound. Truthfully...the only way to fix it is to sand it all the way down and repaint. But I'm going to keep waxing it alot until I can afford the paint job.

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
My beater car had alot of oxidation on it. I used 3M medium compound and a cutting pad on a high speed polisher. An orbital might do the trick if it is not too bad. Otherwise, the high speed polisher will take it off in about 10 seconds.

At this point you are down to paint with no protection. Use a good protectant like Meguir's Medallion or a seriously good wax. Just using a polish won't do at this point.

Good luck. Shoot some pics of the progress.

I had the same problem. I reccomend 7m polishing compound, use it exactly how the directions tell you to... cut it with water and keep cutting it with water until it's not doing anything anymore... repeat if nessesary.

Worked great for me... just watch that you don't go through the clear coat, or chip it at all... that can be touched up with clear coat in a nail polish bottle though.

Pics would probably help!
113 is very good at taking off oxide but how bad is it?
I did a car the other week & it was not waxed in 10 years I used 113 and she looked like new. If its in need of a buff 3m make some very good products.
