Where do I go to find a 350 long block?

Besides the obvious ones like Summit and Jegs...I'm looking for a 350 Long Block w/ Vortec heads and Vortec intake manifold for the TBI. I guess the manifold isn't all that important since they're relatively easy to find. I'm looking for somewhere between 300 - 375 HP.

The kicker is that it has to be smog and emissions legal. I keep finding long blocks, but they all seem to be for pre-emissions.

Thanks,

-The Gunny

Most of those motors will pass a sniffer without much problem, but if you have a visual you may run into problems with EGR and such.

Make friends in the ar community, eventually you'll find someone who has a friend who will be able to get you passed....

you're looking for a motor that I'm building for myself. I pick up my vortec heads this Sunday, and will either be using the GMPP vortec manifold, or the Professional Products one.

I'm on a limited budget, so I've bought mu parts semi used. My engine has about 4000 miles on it since it's last rebuild, the heads have 3 bent exhaust valves and are off a 96 truck.

Also, if you do find someone to pass you... ditch the TBI and computer and get a carb!

Why not just go hunting at a junk yard? The smog commies will never know the difference in displacement!

Oh, and since it will mean something to you... 36 days to EAS!

"Vortec heads" and "emissions legal" brings up an immediate conflict - EGR valve. The Vortec heads don't have the exhaust cross-over passage, from which the valve is fed. You could rig up an external line, I suppose, but if you're talking about visual inspection, you're bound to raise questions.

This isn't too bad of an alternative http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...1577&pid=30690 - not sure of HP, they don't say. Should be easy to hook up all your current TBI components.

They say this one with Vortec heads puts out 280 HP http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...1577&pid=30691 - quite a bit less cam than the other one, so the cheaper, non-Vortec w/crossover passages may be the better route.

Why does SDPC brag about having a bolton EGR valve on their intake when the heads don't support it?

For carb, http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...d=738&pid=1112 :
"Must use external EGR pipe out of exhaust manifold or header to retain functioning EGR valve."

For TBI, http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...d=738&pid=1112 :
"To use EGR, the gasses must be plumbed from the exhaust manifold into the intake manifold. There are many exhaust manifolds that have drilled and tapped holes that can be used to fabricate a tube. To do this, you must use GM exhaust manifold #12557828 or the Edelbrock External EGR adapter kit #2899 with headers. EGR supply tube #10220275 is also required for installation with either headers or exhaust manifold."

Just finished installation of the SD 350 Vortec TPI. I came with the intake manifold and the kit for the EGR. It was a simple installation, everything fit except the oil pressure sending unit plumbing...had to trim the intake manifold. Anyway, when you are done and want to use the lower temp stat, the chip maker will turn off the EGR anyway. But with the EGR plumbing, you would pass visual. I take Emissions test next year and will let you know how it goes. I don't know if the chip guy can leave the EGR on and let you use higher temp stat. My engine runs on cold side <160 degrees. I will look into it. However, the first and only code I got was for the EGR. I guess I could put my stock stat and fan switch and chip back in for the Emissions testing????
