Re: Pushrods went through rocker arms

To be fair, poor metallurgy can happen anywhere, It just seems to happen a lot more frequently as parts origins transition from Federal-Mogul to something more like Wal-Mart. It's fairly evident...

Re: Car Randomly Wont Start

Re: Pushrods went through rocker arms

First, it appears that there actually IS some oil on those rockers, so that may not be the issue.

Second, what kind of springs are under those retainers?

Third, I can only wonder what manner of...

Re: Fuel System Troubleshooting

Can you report the actual fuel pressure measurements? Stating that it is "good" can be very conditional.

Re: Low Voltage to Distributor

Good work in tracking it down.

There is nothing more frustrating than aftermarket and/or customized systems that aren't documented. The word "hack" comes to mind. I've done full-on EFI...

Re: Rough idle

If there is no external leak, the pump check valve may be leaking back. Fortunately, that's not a serious problem. The system has a two-second prime cycle for a reason. I had an S10 that did that...

Re: Rough idle

No. The EGR system has no effect on the fuel pump, regulator, injectors, etc.

After al that, it sounds as if you were able to operate the pump, so what is the fuel pressure with the pump running?

Re: Whats respectable street performance in 2024?

It seems that "respectable performance" in 2024 could be a range of 200 miles per charge. It's a moving target.

Re: Smaller Wiper motor

Classic.

That's probably for those who are inclined to do a lot of Burt Reynolds style high-speed backing up on the freeway. In the rain.

Re: Battery Relocation Wiring

One option, and there are several, would be to route a larger wire (like about AWG8) from the auxiliary power (orange wire), then install an add-on fuse panel, like a Buss 15600-04, and feed the...

Re: Rotor pointing at no. 1 with the piston about 1/4" from TDC?

If the cam sprocket has nylon teeth, it's time to replace it. Aside from that, bear in mind these facts:

Both the ignition and valve timing events are generally expressed in degrees of crankshaft...

I have a Trans Am, which is partially semi-half-backward from the IROC. Positively identify the wire colors and you'll have your best hint.

Re: Rotor pointing at no. 1 with the piston about 1/4" from TDC?

Chain stretch/cam timing is one potential issue, but when the timing mark on the balancer and timing cover tab indicate "TDC" and the piston is obviously not at TDC, the problem is not the chain, but...

The point of that is that the distributor could be 180° (360° crank rotation) out of phase, or could be just a tooth or two off, resulting in 30-70° out of the intended position.
