No Spark to the coil

I reinstalled the factory 305 back in my Camaro. The cars turns but no spark to the coil. I’ve replaced the ICM, rotor is good, replaced the coil and check those cables to make sure they are good and they are.

Still not getting spark, anyone have another place to look

Re: No Spark to the coil

As the engine is cranking, the AC voltage readings should fluctuate between 0.3 Volts and 1.8 Volts AC

Would I test it from the wire from the coil or from the ICM?

From the pickup coil, unplugged from the icm. What has your testing consisted of ? The ignition coil primary and secondary windings were ohmed and determined faulty ?

Re: No Spark to the coil

So far, replaced the ICM

I’ve taken the coil wire out and attached a spark plug to see it sparks and no fire

so you don’t know if the pink wire at coil has power key on engine off or cranking .Or power at the icm ? Sounds like you’re just loading up the parts cannon hoping to find the issue.

if you were cranking the engine theirs your problem. You could ohm it to double check.

Re: No Spark to the coil

If that’s the problem does that mean you have to replace the pick up coil or the whole distributor?

Re: No Spark to the coil

You can just replace pickup coil, you have to remove and disassemble the distributor. It looks relatively new but despite it’s looks it should give a ohm reading and ac voltage while cranking.red lead on the com seems to be in the wrong spot.

Re: No Spark to the coil

So rather than get and replace the pick up I just went with a brand new distributor with everything and it still does fire. Any other suggestions?

How was spark tested ? Coil wire have really high resistance or open. By saying the wire ohms good how much resistance?

When you say VOM is in wrong position can you explain? What does VOM stand for? Sorry for the basic question…

Thanks again for your help

Re: No Spark to the coil

I went and bought a better unit,
When I reinstall the plug with the Ingnition switch still on, I hear the fuel pump kick in.
I’m getting gas just no fire.

As for trying to get spark, took a spare spark plug and hooked it to the coil plug to see if I got a spark. That’s how I checked it.

Does the ECM need to be reset?

The spark plug was grounded when cranking the engine? The ecm doesn’t need a reset .

Re: No Spark to the coil

If the coil wire is good, you have checked acv on the pu coil. Ignition coil ohms good primary and secondary windings. It is possible that the new distributor has a bad icm.

If you short the two meter leads while in an "ohms" scale, does the meter indicate zero?
