If you keep blowing fuses take a few minutes and disconect the battery before messing with the wires, or atleast hook up a good ground first. You could always disconect the harness from the radio...

sounds like its getting way to hot, I put my sony amp in the back box opposite the spare and it seems to keep cool, maybe turn the amp down some, you maybe trying to get to much out of it.

simple, cheap, test lights are very handy when it comes to jobs like this

I would think so without closing the hatch all the way, maybe take some towels or a sheet or something to put between everything so nothing gets damaged, and watch the mirrors. Good luck!
