Memory Power Problem

I bought my 91 Camaro Rs this past year in Sept. One of the first things I did after getting it road worthy, was install a stereo. I know most wires are hooked up right, all except for the two for power: One hot, one not. I couldnt get my stereo to turn on at first, but then a friend of mine taped all four wires together (2 from car, 2 from deck). My stereo powers on when my car is on, but it has no memory. It cant remember the time, track, anything. I was stumped. ANY help is appreciated.

BTW to know what wires were which I used a Haynes repair manual

Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
ok, first... UNTAPE THOSE WIRES!

you need to use a volt meter to find which one is hot at all times. this goes to your CONSTANT 12V power wire on the HU.

Now with your ignition ON find another wire that is hot. kill the ignition and see if it looses power. If so this goes to your SWITCHED 12V on the HU.

in the factory wiring for the car, looks like YELLOW is the switched, and ORANGE is the constant. I normally run new wires, but if you want to use the factory ones that looks like it for ya.

any more help or confusion needed, post again.

I agree, Orange(in car)=constant(yellow on most radios) and yellow(in car)=battery/switched/ignition(red on most radios)

simple, cheap, test lights are very handy when it comes to jobs like this

I think it might have something to do with my ACC fuse. Its been shorting out for a while now and I can't seem to find it. Once I find it once and for all ill see if that works and I'll give some feedback.

If you keep blowing fuses take a few minutes and disconect the battery before messing with the wires, or atleast hook up a good ground first. You could always disconect the harness from the radio then do all your wiring and plug the radio in last
