Re: 91 camaro 305 tbi running rich

I've had a false ECT reading cause this more than once on my car. A bad connection at the sensor made the ECM think the motor was at below freezing temperatures. Although, ambient temp was closer to...

Re: 305 TBI, won't idle and surges when runs

I'll backup the fuel pressure check idea. Could be a slit or hole in the short rubber hose that connects the fuel pump to the hanger assembly. Also, if you've solved the stumble issue yet still have...

Re: 91 firebird shuts off SUDDENLY while driving

I had two different issues that caused my car to just shut off then start back up with no sign of problems. One was the VSS. It would "glitch" when moving from a stop. The speed being reported to the...

Re: REAR Brake Job assistance wanted

Argh! these stinking iron calipers. Previous owner swapped in an earlier rearend with these brakes. When I got my car, the brakes were really bad. Ended up having to get new AC Delco replacement...

Re: Need some help with getting it started

My preferred method to search this site is with google. In the search just type what you want to look for followed by site:thirdgen.org. For example, I did a search for "tbi test site:thirdgen.org"...

Re: Need some help with getting it started

tooltime,

So now it stays running but rough? Does it still backfire through the tbi? Backfiring is a sure sign of something out of order in the ignition.

Did you try shorting the ALDL...

Re: Need some help with getting it started

From your first post, you make it sound like lack of fuel. "no joy on keeping it running without spraying the crap out of it." Although, you seem confident that the fuel system is working. "New pump...

Re: low voltage on load

My car was acting similar as yours with the voltage. My alt is new, but noticed the 11-12 volts at idle with ac on. I just blamed it on being a crappy rebuilt alternator. Didn't worry too much about...

Re: needs help I'm stumped

This is where data logging comes in handy. Then you can see what the ecm sees. As long as the new tps is functioning properly, there is NO need to adjust it. Every time you start the vehicle, the ecm...

Re: Idles high (sometimes) and two ses codes

Yes! an intake leak will cause a high idle and mess with the MAP reading. Get that fixed!

Re: Open element filter problems

Exactly!!, even with the IAT unplugged, there should be no major issues that a tbi motor could incur from an open element filter. It would mess with the fuel trim, but not enough to cause chugging or...

Re: Quick exhaust question

A leaking tbi gasket will cause a whistle at idle.

As for the AIR system..just take it all out and plug the inlets on the exhaust manifolds. No need to remove them, unless you upgrade to headers....

Re: Camaro iroc 305 TBI high idle!

2000 rpm idle is most likely a vacuum leak.

Like ex-x-fire said..tbi base gasket. The material gets dry and brittle over the years. It's easy to pull off the tbi unit, so I would do it anyways....

Re: Is this common for a 305????

I've got a 3.73 posi in my mostly stock 305 tbi. I'm lucky if I get a quick chirp off the line. Although, my rubber is fairly fresh. Only a few months old.

Re: 88 tbi 5.0 305 camaro

When gasoline sits for too long, it will gradually become solid. If this is the case then most likely the fuel pump in the tank has seized and/or clogged fuel filter. How much fuel was in the car...

Re: Bought my 1st 3rd gen, need help.

That's a holley Throttle body injection (TBI) unit. It's not a factory piece, and I'm curious as to why the PO pulled it off and put on the carb. I'm guessing it was not running right. They might...

Re: Bought my 1st 3rd gen, need help.

Since it's been converted to carb, how is the AIR injection valve or EGR valve even being activated? These are/were both controlled by the fuel injection ECM. Also, the carb could be out of tune and...

Re: Rear Disc Brakes Don't Work (Losing Pressure)

"slave cylinder" is a term used for the hydraulic part in drum brakes. Technically a brake caliper is a "slave cylinder" but no one will ever call it that. You have 4 wheel disk, so don't worry about...

Re: Garage find that won't idle properly

High idle is caused by vacuum leaks, bad IAC, or bad CTS. You already replaced the IAC and CTS. So maybe vacuum leaks. Although, there is a IAC reset process that will ensure the pintle is positioned...

A.I.R. solenoid box, smog pump pulley, mounting hardware

Re: Garage find that won't idle properly

I'd start with the ignition module inside the distributor. Pull it out and you should be able to have it tested at your local parts store (the one I work at does). If that checks out then you might...

Re: Garage find that won't idle properly

I also recently acquired a 91 RS. Went through everything trying to fix a high idle issue, then a similar issue to what you are experiencing. High idle was a bad pcv valve allowing to much vacuum...
