REAR Brake Job assistance wanted

On Saturday, I successfully redid my front brakes, mostly due to 911rsq's sticky https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brak...r-install.html

However, when I took off the rear tires, I saw that the rear discs looked much different with E Brake springs in the way of the caliper bolts and also the face where the lug bolts are is different. Can someone post a similar '50 steps' for the rear? Maybe I'm overreacting because it's my first brake job on this car but admittedly, I'm intimidated. Help is appreciated!

Sorry for the sideways photo, but another question: what's that sponge looking block?

From what I can see, it doesn't look like you need to do the rear brakes. Looks like there is plenty of pad left on them. Is there something functionally wrong w/ the rears or do you just want to because?

The previous owner did them 9 years ago (not much mileage since then) so based on the age, as well as a lack of good/confident feeling brakes, I purchased new parts for the front and rear (rotors, stillen pads, upgraded proportioning valve spring, goodridge brake hoses...). The newly installed fronts and spring already feel better but I want to now do the rears so I can install the new ss brake hoses and also flush and bleed the system.

it is pretty much the same as the front minus packing the hub bearings and stuff. the "sponge" thing is the weight that helps release the e-brake. also when you pop the caliper off by undoing the guide pins, the piston you DO NOT press in with a c-clamp you have to screw it in with a special tool or use vice grips and try not to tear up the boot and literally turn it into the caliper

should be available for rent, i had one home. other than that the installation is pretty self explanatory.

Re: REAR Brake Job assistance wanted

Argh! these stinking iron calipers. Previous owner swapped in an earlier rearend with these brakes. When I got my car, the brakes were really bad. Ended up having to get new AC Delco replacement calipers since the parking brake/adjustment mechanism wasn't working right. There was about a 1/4" of gap between the pad and the rotor. Since your calipers are old, I would make sure the adjustment mechanism is working properly. Also, the stiffer grainger spring made a huge difference. Still though, I want better brakes!
