This is one of three different versions of what is called a "case saver". This takes the place of the "anti clunk" spring. This should only be used when the aluminum case lugs are very worn.

If you want to make a 5,500 rpm setup. Then you need to get a valve body or the shift valves (1-2, 2-3 & 3-4 shift valve) from a Z28 type and the matching Z28 governor. You can get it somewhat close...

It was never installed. It is almost impossible for the pin to fall out, if it was drilled correctly. Remove the gear and see if the hole was drilled. It should be .125".

If you have a 1988 or later V8 700R4, it will have the .282" intermediate/reverse boost valve. If you have under 400 FWHP, this valve with work fine. This valve gives firmer 1-2 manual shifts.
