I had a similar issue with my bird several years ago. Bad ECM. Got a re manufactured one, pulled the chip out of the original, swapped it and never an issue since.

I think I found the problem The grommet on the pull down rod is bad. The rod shifts a hair and gets caught up on the black plastic switch assembly. Never ends.

Well I think I got this figured out too. I put in new plastic ends on slides and they are tight as it gets towards the bottom when pulling the hatch down. They get stuck and the motor just spins....

Got mine from Hawks. Overall I cant complain. I had to modify the 3rd light housing by shaving it down. But I am happy in that is very easy to install and lightens the car and rear hatch too.
