Your oil thins out when it gets warm so the idle goes up from less resistance to the oil flow. Set your idle hot.

Tom, 85 and older sbc engines are internal balanced except the 400. In 86 with the rear main revision came an imbalanced flywheel. So he'll need probably a 10.5 inch clutch balanced 153 tooth...

That early block may not have the correct hole for the clutch bellcrank stud. Ran into that when we put a 62 327 into a 73 Nova.. plus you'll need the specific flywheel for the 327 with the right...

I bought a pair last year, they look decent, I drilled the hood mounting holes out 1/16" and they mounted up flush then.. overall I would give them an 8 out of 10.

The 4 bolts should be external Torx. Maybe the bolts you have there are bottoming out before they tighten up on the housing??

Whatever path you choose, you'll need to scuff it up good with scotchbrite so the next layer will stick. I'd go with some flattened clear, it's more durable and cleanable than single stage.
