Check fuel pressure, if the pump is going bad it can bog hard under load (when in gear for example)

yes from the factory there is a sheet metal "heat shield" between the muffler and tank. You may also want to check or replace your vent valve, this should be blowing off excess pressure long before...

Those appear to be Bilstein's hence the blue boot... although I am curious which model, since I did not think Bilstein made a front strut for thirdgens.
