Re: Look what followed me home. ‘87 Formula

I've been driving the Formula around since the weather improved. Just a couple thoughts on the LG4, since it doesn't get much respect. Especially in revised, 1987 form, it's a smooth, torquey,...

I've watched a number of Youtubes where they quickly and easily defeat VATS by splicing a correct resistor into the wires coming out of the steering column. I'm not in favor of such hackery on my...

I've searched every thread.

No crank, no start, security light on. Can hear fuel pump.

Had PROM burned with VATS delete, no change.

Jumped starter...

Re: Look what followed me home. ‘87 Formula

Exactly. These wheels aren’t perfect but they are factory. You can see the machine grooves and the rainbow finish of the clear coat. I could re-do my old ones, but they’d never have the same look.

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

No, I wish. The factory I-pipe was split from front to back when I got it. I thought it would be no problem to have a 2.75"-3" pipe fabbed like they did in the old days. No luck. My exhaust guy...

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

I had an '87 IROC-Z with the LG4, 700R4. 2.73 combo. The Formula is quite a bit peppier with the T5 and 3.23 gears.

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

Could be. But it would stand a better chance than either an LU5 TH200 or a 4 speed 145 hp LG4.

I had an '82 GT for a while. I don't think it would have walked away from my '87 Formula - or visa...

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

It would have been.

Better than the 145 hp LG4 4 speed.

Better than the 165 hp LU5 auto only

Better than the '82 Mustang GT 157 hp.

Yes....imagine a 1987 LG4 in an '82 Z28. It would have killed the Mustang GT in it's crib.

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

That's actually pretty good. My SOP, (seat of the pants) meter says that my '87 LG4 Formula, 5 speed, 3.23, "feels" like a mid-high 15 second car.

Re: Why the '87 LG4 is superior the previous LG4s.

I'd bet adding HO exhaust manifolds, N10 exhaust and L69 aircleaner, would add 35 horsepower to an '87 LG4.
