Did Ford hook a torque arm to the back of their weak cased T5?

You ditch the torque arm and you have a decent trans for dirt cheap.

I have a lot smaller cam (XE274) and it has the best idle with 24* base timing. I limited the mech advance to 12*. First thing I did before changing the advance was buy a good gear reduction starter....

I think the center sections are cast steel. I know I welded my axle tubes on my 10 bolt. Still would take some work to make a secure weld on torque arm mount.

You might want to get a 2 ton hoist. The Firebirds have the longest nose on the third gens and the smaller 1 ton hoist may not have enough reach. By the time I have my 2 ton extended all the way out...

When I did the heads and 274 cam in my car I ran out of money for the exhaust so I put her together with with the monifolds and stock y pipe/ catback. It ran fine. I trapped 99 mph with it that way....
