in need of 10bolt REAREND
I currently have a 9 bolt rear on my iroc, But inorder for me to do good at pinks this summer I need or would like a 10bolt rear, preferly with disc brakes on it, but I can change if I have to.
Needs to be a POSI rearend as well.
so if anyone has one sitting around let me know. cant go much over $100. ON a limited budget for this Pinks bill

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
The only rear end I have isn't what I consider a spare. It is however is a disc brake 10 bolt. I think it has 3.42s. It came out of Jon Zweigers wrecked 91 Z28 that he road raced (don't know if you knew/remember him). 10 bolts aren't really something I collect

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
If I cant find one soon I will have to go to a junk yard & pay close to 200 for one, not happy about that lol, then get the gears I need to build it up.
There is a guy in Aburn that has a rearend & its a 10bolt but doesnt know if its posi or not, may have to drive up there this weekend.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
What's wrong with the 9 bolt? I wouldn't be wanting to put alot of power and sticky tires through a 10 bolt without beefing it up.

I have a brand new set of Precision Gears 3.73 gears for a ten bolt that I will donate to your cause. I paid 350.00 for them ten years ago from TPIS, never took them out of the box. PM me on the Cascade crew site if you want to install them on the car you are running on PINKS.

A drum rear would be a good choice, due to its less rollong resistance, than a disc brake rear end.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
I don't know why I didn't remember this before... there is a '82-'84 (not sure what year) z28 in a junkyard in Poulsbo that originally had a 5.0 HO, I took the dash badge and the Aluminum drums off of it. It should have a 10-bolt with 3:73 gears.
There are no wheels on it though, the rearend is just sitting on the ground.
I haven't been to that junkyard in a couple months though, so I don't know for sure that it is still there.
It's called yank-a-part, their phone number is 360 779-3344.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
Krazzy, If you are trying to make a posi out of it the best thing would be to just get the 10 bolt non-posi and modify it to be a posi unit. they sell kits for cheap that will lock the spiders together and creat a cheap spool out of it. Your only using it to go straight anyways....... I personally would never mess with the 10 bolt if you have some serious power.... I a drum brake posi unit I took aparts and installed 4.10 richmonds, aftermarket axles, a stud girdle, ect. best of the best and it grenaded the first run with the drag radials on. But if you must get a 10 bolt I would do what I said above......
maybe something like this is what u could get by with. Cheap!

What I am trying to do is get away from my 9 bolt, & go to a 10 bolt rear end, then if I cant find a dis brake car then I will have to change it over later. I dont have much money for this build.

youalso cant get parts for the 9 bolt rear ends anymore because they dont make them.
YOu could be thinking a Ford 9inch which is stronger.

No.....I'm not thinking of the Ford rearend. 9 bolt > 10 bolt. Its why they were standard it TTAs.....Higher level/HP output 3rd gens, etc.

Then why did they only produce the 9 bolt in the camaro for 4yrs?
Ok let me do it this way, I am working with a very strong dragracer, someone who has been racing longer than most of us been alive. Plus a few other guys that will never lead me the wrong way (including my brother in law, who has his hands in every part of this build.) all the pros even the guys from RANDY's Ring & Pinion say get away from the crappy 9 bolt.
The whole plan is for this year, to go with a 10 bolt, rear end, even if it has drum brakes (beef it up to 3.73 gears, if I have the money, Put a new back plate on it & replace the crush gaskit with a pinion seal). Race it this year, put alittle bit more power in the engine in the car, then bump up to disc brakes.
If I had my way about it I would go with a 12bolt & just be done with it, but I cant afford it.
I cant afford to go out & spend $300,-500 on a rear end.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
You don't hafta get an attitude about it. Build it how you want. I don't care. I was just clarifying some things.
Because it is an Australian import axle. It costed GM more to import them & more to build. Strength costs money.
Do it how you want, I don't really care. Don't cop an attitude so fast. Geeeeez!
I was just pointing out that 9 bolt parts are NOT hard to come by. In fact, Australia STILL uses the center section, to this day.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
Well thats kinda what I was getting at since you said that you had access to a drum brake 10 bolt and you had a guy on this post that was willing to give you a 3.73 ratio setup. then all you would need to get is the mini spool setup which is 98 bucks thru summit.

I guess I could see this coming in this thread as it was progressing.
They only asked that you run 12.99 and quicker. I am sure there is a lot of people that made it that are not able to run those times (not saying you can't krazzy) just saying im sure there are others that can't

Sighs its always great to see people willing to throw their know how around, when it was asked for & when they do not live in the section that its going for. But thanks everyone.
All this thread was was to see if anyone LOCAL had a 10 bolt I can buy off of them.

A 20 shot? Of what? A 20 shot of Nitrious is worthless on a V-8... 75 shot is about the minimum you would want to run to make a difference.
The 10 bolt in my 00 Trans Am barely survived with me running Nitto 555rs running 13.11 @ 108. In fact Ellis thought I blew it up once at the track at one of the CCCs. I wouldn't trust a 10 bolt to survive when you are trying to get a sub-2 second 60 foot, which is what you will need to get into the 12s.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
if what ur doin is safe enough for a 10bolt then it damn sure is for a 9bolt, save ur time and money and stick with the 9bolt... and yes im not from ur area, but i dont browse sections on here i just hit the new post button and if i see somethin that catches my eye i read and maybe post i dont care what section that its in...now that is my advice trying to be helpful. if your straped for cash make do with what you got, u can pick up some gears from 9bolt.com with the money your willin to spend on the 10bolt and have it all done. Its a good rear end. No C clips to worry about, sllightly bigger ring gear and alot of other things add up to make it better then a 10bolt, its only downfall is the lack of parts but they are there if u try to look...

Wow, lots of opinions being floated around. I can say with out a doubt that a 10 bolt can take numerous 1.80 60' passes. Mine has done this at SIR/ PRW on several occasions with street tires. It is starting to slip now, but it also has about 110K on it.

Re: in need of 10bolt REAREND
That is YOUR ten bolt....... If that was the case then I could also Honestly say that a 10 bolt cannot take a 2.1 60 foot since that was all mine took before it grenaded. Not matter what the fact of the matter is that if your running fast on a 10 bolt you are on borrowed time and I think most people will agree with that.
