^ agreed. If rust is left in there you will see it again. You also need to seal the areas that are welded so they will not be prone to rust around the areas you welded.

A coolant temp sensor will or at least can make a big difference. I would replace that and go from here. Just my 2 cents. It wouldnt hurt to replace the ECM either.

If the rest of the car is perfect then I would take the caps off and cut out all of the rust. Then weld a patch. If done right this will INCREASE the strength of that area. Then weld on new caps. ...

Yes you can do it by climbing in there and looking with a flashlight. You may need to do some scraping if there was an oil leak. Any word on the VIN search??? Just curious.

The vin is on basically every body panel. The problem is if the body panels were switched there will obviously be discrepencies. I would look on both rear quarter panels and see if those VIN's match....

Good luck on your car. The truth is, until you run the numbers and check the engine, you will not know for sure if its a 350 or 305. I certainly hope that the guy who sold you the car didn't screw...

Ditto on the 400 grit. It will take a while but get a small cup or container. Fill it about 3/4 of the way with warm soapy water. Dish soap works great. Dip frequently in between sanding. ...

Well what type of Carb? My guess is that your fuel pump is bad. They usually have a visible leak when they start to go but I have seen them go bad and pump fuel into the crank case without leaking...
