Re: Pilot bushing or bearing

Depends on what transmission you use. Some transmissions are designed to be used with a bearing, but the older transmissions may not last long with bearing. The quality of the bushings today has...

Re: Rear differential leak question

There was a thread on here not long ago about someone who was trying to find a new rubber plug. I can't remember if they were able to find one or not.

Re: 9-Bolt M78 rebuild for under 300 dollars

Torco is the best oil to use in the 9 bolt, but others work. Most of the time the additive is needed.

Re: Blown 3:45 Ratio 9 Bolt - thoughts?

Rebuilding it might seem like more than you want to take on, but I believe that you can do it. From what I understand the 3.45 is not available new, so you would probably have to set up a used gear....

Re: Blown 3:45 Ratio 9 Bolt - thoughts?

So do you think that the 9 bolt is not strong enough to handle what you are doing with it? Do you think that you need to upgrade to a stronger rear end, or do you think that this is just something...

Re: rebuilding rear end at home...possible??

The 9 bolt is actually a little better rear end, but it will probably be more expensive to rebuild. The Borg Warner differential in it can be reconditioned, but requires some machine work. There is a...

Re: 10 bolt 3.23, swap gears inside?

Pinion depth adjustments are made with shims and must be accurate within +/- .001 inch. Pinon bearing preload must be set to within +/- 2 inch pounds. Backlash is set with shims and must be set to...

Re: 10 bolt 3.23, swap gears inside?

You may already know this, but swapping gears is a lot more than just taking one out and putting another one in. There is a lot of set up involved. Pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash must be...

Re: Need help GTA 9 bolt

That oil should work fine. There is no yellow metal in the 9 bolt, so it won't hurt anything. You may still need the additive. I found that Torco oil works best with the Borg Warner differential.

OK, just be careful with it. I've seen several of these break, mostly in the 7.5 rear ends.

Re: Thick gears?

The thick gear might be a little stronger due to it being more rigid, but it will also have more rotating mass. Most racers want to reduce rotating mass as much as possible. Mini spools are not very...

Re: Richmond 3.42 ring and pinion loud during operation

Pinion depth, backlash and bearing preload must be set correctly for the gears to mesh properly. If anything is not set correctly then you will have noise. It's probably not the fault of the gears....
