Re: How to run carb with no computer controls???

Thank you for that, pancherj, I forgot about the geometry corrector. However, 87zz28, since your car is already carbureted, you most likely will not have an electric fuel pump to worry over (some...

Re: How to run carb with no computer controls???

There isn't much involved in divorcing the engine from the computer. You will need a distributor with vacuum advance and just about any off-the-shelf carburetor. Of course, there may be other...

Re: To rebuild or build from scratch?

That engine SHOULD have dished pistons, most likely around +12cc's, if it really has 8.5:1 compression and 76cc heads. A 64cc head will bring the compression ratio up to 9.5:1, which isn't bad at all...

Re: To rebuild or build from scratch?

My original Quadrajet fit the Edelbrock Vortec intake just fine. If your distributor and carburetor are still working fine, it would simplify things greatly for you to reuse them. I scrapped my...

Re: To rebuild or build from scratch?

It would behoove you to know more about the engine you have in order to determine what you need to attain your goal. Fancy heads and a trick cam will be for naught if your piston/head combination...

Re: V6 T5 to V8 clutch

Yes, the 4.3, 305, and 350 flywheels can use the same pressure plate, at least with the 168-tooth versions. I know nothing about the smaller flywheels. Most aftermarket suppliers list the same part...

The bellhousing will mount directly without a plate, but be mindful of what size flywheel your engine requires (many of that era block will only accept the 168-tooth flywheel, which is not compatible...

Re: Aftermarket heads

It is my understanding that the factory heads will only accommodate up to .420" lift without either machining the heads for aftermarket springs ($$$) or use beehive springs (also $$$).

I like the Summit brand Vortec heads. At ~$620 for the pair, they cost me more than junkyard heads, but they were new and fully assembled. By the time you buy the used heads, lap the valves and...

Perfection Clutch makes good stuff. If you ever run into an issue, their support line is the best. (I called them for spec numbers when cobbling my frankenstein setup together.)

Re: Pilot Bearing Removal Tool

The last bushing I pulled out, I just used a course-thread bolt that was barely larger than the ID of the bushing. A ratchet wrench walked it out with ease.

Re: Two or one piece rear main

You can use either, just make sure you use a flex plate that matches the crank (The one-piece units are externally balanced and have a weight on the flex plate, the two-piece does not.)
