I think you might save some hassle by returning the carb to it's stock metering before you start troubleshooting. Do you have that information? If not give me the carb number and I'll look it up.

be real careful of setting the throttle blades correctly. 0.030 is a good rule of thumb. tune from there. if you want to know what the original jets and rods were for the carb the shoot me the number...

I would rebuild it. with that many miles your throttle shaft is bound to be sloppy and that can cause the symptoms you are having. it's reativly easy to rebush at home. you need to find brass tubing...

One other thing about champion is they bead blast everyting and dont replate....
