Caps only work one way, similar to an LED. you most likely soldered the cap in backwards and increased the V drop, rather then trimming it out... give it another go ole boi!

update, the piggy back module from Dakota Digital is okay. it only measures speed and not the tach. so moving onto why the tach is going bananas.
