I have had the PCV valve and associated hose off to check previously. PCV valve appears to be free and working - I did also clean it to make sure the flap opened and closed as necessary.

Thanks for the input so far guys - Looks like I need to confirm correct ECM operation first, before going elsewhere. Replacing the ECM may prove troublesome, since they appear to be out of stock in...

Just joined up, having bought an '89 IROC. It's pretty straight and rust free, with the usual cosmetic issues such as shot headliner etc. Drives well and is as quiet as you might expect...
