Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Around the time I was finishing up the passenger floor I found a door on marketplace that was in great shape rust wise. It did unfortunately have some damage at the back. I didn't realize until I was...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Been a while since I've posted any progress pictures. I fell into the trap of becoming a home owner and house projects having to come first, so I haven't worked on it much lately. I still have many...

Re: rear bumper extender question

You go through the inside of the car. You'll have to move the trunk quarter trims out of the way and the nuts will be down at the bottom.

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Next thing to do was repairing the rest of the inner and outer rocker. The outer was pretty much perfect except for the front where it was crushed from improper jacking and on spot on the back that...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Next thing was starting on the passenger toe board. A friend gave me this left over piece of repop front floor section. I cut it down to the flange to make a factory appearing repair. The...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

I have many more progress pictures and updates to make. This thread is a few months behind the work I've done. I'll update it some more tonight after work.

For metal, I have a place down the...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

I meant to hit the quote button the first time but I used 18 gauge for most of my handmade repairs, a few things are 20 and some are 16. I depended on where. Rockers and firewall is all 18. Doubler...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

18 gauge metal mostly, some stuff is 16 and some is 20 but 90% of it is 18 gauge. I use .023 wire

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Next I started working on the firewall and cowl drain. I'm not sure exactly why the rust goes so high, I assume its from salt water running through the cowl drain after the seam sealer failed. I...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Sorry for not updating recently. I've been busy. I just bought a home. The garage isn't set up yet to get any new work done, but hopefully it will be soon. I'll start where I left off before.

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

I have to fill this thread in some more. But the photos from the posts so far are in spoilers, otherwise they end up really big on the page.

Re: Z bar to hydraulic clutch conversion

This may work out for me then. If the master goes in the same place, hopefully I can use the '83 pedals to line it up for now. Otherwise, I'll have to source a set of 84+ pedals soon.

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

The next thing to do was remove the interior and to start working on the A-pillar, cowl drain, toe board and firewall. It's pretty rough. I assume it's from a heater core leak that wasn't caught for...

Re: '83 Z28 Restoration

Hopefully it's not against the rules to post too many replies in a row. I want to try to fill this up to some degree tonight.

Anyway, I started with the passenger floor repair around the body...

'83 Z28 Restoration

I've been putting off starting this thread for a while. I know a lot of people's first thing to say is to junk it, I have come too far to do that. It's very sentimental to me, it's my first car, the...

Re: Patch repair

Have to get one from the junk yard. If you cut it out larger than you need you can section the wheel house and trunk drop off too.

Re: how does this happen?

I've been doing the same thing to mine. Driver side is really rough, I did the passenger side already. Since I have to do floors I just cut it all out and rebuilt it piece by piece. I put the...

Z bar to hydraulic clutch conversion

I have an 83 Z28 that I am restoring. I don't like how the z bar feels to drive, much prefer the hydraulic clutch in my e46. I'd like to update my car to the 84+ hydraulic setup. I know I need the...

Re: Caliper bracket/backing plates for 82-87 9 bolt disc

Thank you to Rally Z for selling me a pair and to who mentioned to him that I was looking for these. One step closer to bringing the car down off jack stands, so it's no longer a Jack Stand Queen......

Re: Caliper bracket/backing plates for 82-87 9 bolt disc

If you could that would be awesome. If they're on a 9 bolt and look like the ones the posted by John then that's what I'm looking for.

Re: Caliper bracket/backing plates for 82-87 9 bolt disc

Yeah. Can pretty much find the 10 bolt ones all day, but still no 9 bolt ones. At this point I'm wondering if I should just take back my new rotors, and rebuilt calipers, and upgrade to the 89-92...
