And for those curious about context. I am a software engineer. I have been for 30 years. I know a thing or two about troubleshooting systems. Which knobs to hold constant, which knobs to move, etc....

Yeah, I want a good reliable TBI. But it is increasingly sounding like the all-in-one units have an achillies heel: heat damaging the ECU.

I want to keep the stock "top hat" look. It is an original Quadrajet car. And it has to be TBI as there is not enough hood clearance for MPFI with a top hat (nevermind the cost).

Yeah, I was looking at those cables online yesterday. In my case the CCC carb ECM doesn't give out much information. Not much more than could be measured through other means. Maybe one of these days...

Despite having labelled all hoses and connections before the manifold swap, upon reconnecting, I managed to connect the left wiper washer hose to manifold vacuum!

So far all indications are a stuck fast idle linkage, but even with it manually dropped idle is still a high (and the curb idle screw is fully retracted).

I am hearing what sounds like a vacuum...
