The bleeder goes up. The air will pocket at the highest point of the caliper, so that's where it makes the most sense to have the bleeder screw.

I've used The Right Stuff, Ultra Black, and Ultra Grey with good success. Lay a good bead and then let it sit long enough to get a little bit of a skin to it. Drop your manifold on. Boom.

You probably need more timing. Get your timing ironed out before you worry about the carburetor at all. You probably need something like 10 more degrees of advance at idle, depending on your combo....
