Re: tach doesnt work...

Lol, I didn't even notice the date on the original post. It showed up in my recent topics that's why I commented on it.

Re: tach doesnt work...

The tach problem is caused by a Resistor going bad. There is a really helpful thread about it here;

Re: 89' Iroc 350TPI 700R4 Problems

no, teh tach issue is a resistor thing and has nothing to do with it. I've been driving around with my tach sitting on my desk in the garage for the last few days as mine was pegging as soon as you...

Re: Tachometer Died

Turns out I read the wrong pin for R5. I was reading both the R5 and R6 resisters in sequence, that was why it was so high. Everything looks good except for the dead circuit on R4. I will get out...

Re: 90-92 Tachometer fix....

Re: Tachometer Died

Ah, I feel dumb. I was looking at the chip upside down. I tested the wrong pin sets. checking it the correct way I found;
R1 = 3.76k
R2 = 3.85k
R3 = 1.92k
R4 = x
R5 = 7.28k
R6 = 2.94k
R4 is...

Re: 90-92 Tachometer fix....

Having a similar problem with my tahc pegging as soon as its given power. I tested my board and came up with; (for a V8)
R1 = 3.76k
R2 = 3.85k
R3 = 1.92k
R4 = x
R5 = 7.28k
R6 = 2.94k

R4 is...

I'm assuming that the one on the right is for the tach. If so, it checks out.

Re: Tachometer Died

My tach and oil pressure are both on the same board behind the gauges so it is a little different than the ones in that other thread, but as far as I can tell, that wasn't the problem. I'm getting...

Re: Tachometer Died

Going to pull out the board tomorrow and check on that 4-10 resistor. That sounds exactly like the problem I'm having.

Tachometer Died

Not sure if something broke or just came loose, but my tach stopped working and the needle sits pegged at 7k rpm. It still moves and it drops back to 0 when the engine is off.

Come to think of...

Re: Should I even bother?

Not sure if you are willing to travel, but I have an 89 with a working AC system that I plan on removing this summer just to clear out space and weight (since I will never use it). I'm not sure what...

Looking for a Camaro owners club in the Twin Tiers

Swapping metal panels for fiberglass

Is there a place out there that produces factory style replacement body panels in fiberglass instead of metal? I love the standard look of the stock body and I really don't want any of those special...

Re: Emmisions in NY

Got my 89 inspected this year with just the Safety Inspection. Costs a lot less and there is no emissions test. Might have to wait a few more years for yours, but until it qualifies for just the...
