Need some help on a power steering pump I am having....I bought an 1989 GMC 350 transplant truck...it has a serpentine setup on it that doesnt belong on the truck and looks the same as a 90's Camaro...

I have been in your shoes...did the 305 thing , heads , cam , rear gear , exhaust,muffler, headers ...looking back unfortunately you cant beat an L31 350 crate drop in .....FWIW

Yes mine is plumbed differently...I go from tank pump to regulator / return , to carb .....it works fine now but may have been fixed too just configuring it as you say .....

I can only relay what happened in my case with my TBI to CARB swap...car ran absolutely great BUT I had the hot hard start problem...I tried the foamy thermal type carb gasket / spacer that came...

I preoiled it on the stand turning it 90 degrees while priming ...update I let it run 5-8 minutes drizzling oil over the dry rockers and voila once it heated up I got oil flowing on the passenger...

Front needle and seat was hung open as I suspected. I blew it out and found no debris in the bowls , screens or needle and seat itself ????????? I put the demon 1901 on it just to feel how it felt...

Here is the "factory" wiring diagram snippet for the TCC circuit in the 1991 RS TBI 305 700R AUTO . As you can see I should get +12 interrupted to the TCC solenoid by the brake pedal application...

My 91 r/s 305 was equipped with a two wire solenoid marked "red" , "blk". The "red" terminal is actually a brown wire . I don't know if it tarnishes over time or what.

Thanks for the reply. I REALLY got out there last night and tried to understand it all with a volt meter in hand etc. and think I figured it out.


What I learned is the 4th gear oil pressure...

Long story short I bought a monster transmissions external lockup kit for my 700r two wire solenoid setup. Then I realized I am one of the lucky few who DO NOT have an EXTERNAL 4th gear test port...

Yes Im currently running the Flowtech y pipe and summit shorty headers , the rest of my system is bits n pieces I put together...


The muffler p/n was IMCO 77583 - is like this one on ebay ...

No cam with your parts I would say about 200-210...with a conservative LT1 cam I would say 230 -240. You might as well throw some Fel Pro 1094 .015 head gaskets in there to give a slight...

Those are good numbers as is imo ...putting it in advanced isnt going to be a huuuge difference ....from years ago I seem to recall comps 268h had the best mix of higher tq and hp in a miilder grind...
