The "relay" is actually in a module piggy-backed to the ECM, if it hasn't been converted to a '86-'89 computer.
The module is ridiculously expensive. They can be found used.

Ha ha - you are right! I bought mine in 1985 at around $19K with 14% interest on the loan! Probably spent over $22K (luckily paid off early)

Hatch button should also be enabled if in park. If not in park, then E-brake must be on.

Not going to comment on removing the cat but sometimes it can be hard to tighten them around the y-pipe. Cutting three 1 inch slots in the cat inlet pipe and using a good clamp like Accuseal really...

Check out some of the businesses that sell DIY turbo and intake stuff, like Silicone Intakes. They will have reducing cones and all manner of tubes/pipes.

The passenger side air valve points backwards on '85s and forward on '86 and up. No doubt they wanted to minimize part numbers.

If you get the stock ductwork and canister you're 95% of the way to a SLP cold air setup anyway - the difference being only the highly crack-able box.

Some people sell only the boxes. I bought...

I would look for a used SLP cold air kit or factory 88-89 ductwork/air canister. They're on E-Bay quite often.

Take the spark plugs out, too, so you can easily turn the crank by hand. If you get all the counterweights positioned just right, the pan practically falls off!

There is an ECM override switch mounted in the passenger side block. It has a fixed on/off temp. Its a failsafe for the comnputer. It will turn on the fan if for some reason the ECM does not.
