Maf sensor relay

I picked up a 85 Camaro for my daughter. Has been hacked up. First. Where is the maf sensor relay supposed to be located? Also AutoZone said they couldn't get it. Motor parts and bearings gave me one has all 5 pins like fuel pump relay. the jacket or blade near front buy the battery cut up bad

Re: Maf sensor relay

The "relay" is actually in a module piggy-backed to the ECM, if it hasn't been converted to a '86-'89 computer.
The module is ridiculously expensive. They can be found used.

Re: Maf sensor relay

I got a 85 Camaro shop manual and it shows the relay passenger side front. Doesn't show a burn off like the 305tpi have. Will a fuel pump relay work? I have a 5 pin relay like the fuel pump type. The Po cut wires and looks like they bypassed the relay

Re: Maf sensor relay

Maybe mistaken on power relay but pump relay should be by the booster
only relay by the radiator should be electric fan.

Re: Maf sensor relay

85 TPI MAF burn-off relay is as Brian described; 'piggy-back on the ECM. Here is the 85 TPI schematic:

Here is a link that shows what it looks like:

I got a 85 Camaro shop manual and it shows the relay passenger side front.
My guess is that you're looking at the V6 MAF diagrams........

Re: Maf sensor relay

My question is, can a fuel pump relay be used in place of the maf relay

Re: Maf sensor relay

Compare the PN's and see if they are the same. If they are not the same PN,... I would GUESS no.

Re: Maf sensor relay

The diagram shows them looking the same. But the maf relay has one pin empty on the connector

Re: Maf sensor relay

I've noticed that the radiator fan relay is pinned the same as the maf relay. Even though the diagram shows the fuel pump relay and the maf relay with the same picture emblem thing. See the fan relay on the far left is 5 blade with only 4 being used. Same 4 as the maf relay.

Re: Maf sensor relay

So I would guess I need a fan relay and trace the wires to get it back factory

Re: Maf sensor relay

Looks like the MAF relay has should have 5 pins,.. but only 4 are used. Since the car will run without an AC relay and it will not run without the fuel pump relay,.... I'd try swapping the AC relay and see if the car runs OK and what-ever problem your having clears-up. Plenty of time to buy another AC relay ( or the exact MAF relay depending on PN ) before the summer gets here.
