A word of warning - have plan B ready- tires 101

having worked 20 years in the tire business just thought I'd put this common sense advisory about a forgotten Plan A- a spare tire, you know that little lifesaver covered and forgotten in your trunk. My son needed to get his 64 Malibu wagon moved and he needed a spare and I had a 15" inflate a spare out of a 90 that had never been on the ground so it was aired up, the wagon pushed on trailer and off and 2 days later - just sitting mind you POW!

So as your driving around in your cruiser make sure the road tires are good or great and you have a plan B or a spare spare
End of warning
and for your viewing pleasure:
the wagon is fine still waiting for him to "start" on it so far we have - wagon a LY6 6.0 and a 3.31-12 bolt I got him this far now he can invest $$
plan is no painting exterior and make it pretty under the hood

The pic of the Chevelle wagon brings back memories; I had a clean, 2-door '64 wagon way back in the day, as my daily driver until some moron rear-ended it one evening. It was only a 6-banger/powerglide, but was still just different enough to be interesting.

I can relate to this experience somewhat as well. Thankfully again not on a car while driving but my dads 72 LeMans had a tire blow out in similar fashion while just sitting in the garage. Tires from the early 80’s, just sitting for last 30 years. Visually great tread no cracking, but blew the whole damn side out. Never seen anything like it. Now his original wheels, and his extra Rally II’s both have fresh sets

My 92 year old grandpa continues to say your spare tire should be your best tire.
