Wanting to purchase this GTA, but not sure of the asking price
I looked at and drove a GTA yesterday. It was a 1987 GTA 5.7 liter TPO with 78k on the clock. The asking price was 11K. What should I offer? Shopping for these cars is a bit exhausting. I have attached pictures showing some of the flaws.
Pros:
. Good tires
. Mechanically it was very sound.
. Drove very nice and very responsive.
. Suspension was tight and steering were straight.
. Underneath there were no signs of leaks with just the usual surface rust.
. Original factory Delco radio and the cassette deck was working!
. No dash cracks.
. Headliner was intact.
. No interior or seat rips
. Rust free
Cons:
. Front and rear rubber bumpers have spider cracking and will need repainting.
. Rear wrap around spoiler will need to be replaced then painted.
. Will need new power antenna.
. Window scrapers starting to crack, and need replacing.
. Drivers side front fender will need to be repaired or replaced.
. The plastic hood vents are faded and need to be repainted.
. A small divot on the hood.
. No AC due to compressor needing to be replaced.
. Passenger headlight motor runs a bit longer than normal, but works.
. center console sides need replacing. They had screws installed to hold it together.
. Mild fading to plastic interior panels in the hatch area.
. Eventually the whole car will need a repaint due to light fading in spots, roof etc.

I'd walk at anything even close to that price. It's a pretty run of the mill GTA, and pop up in that condition fairly often on TGO alone for $5-6K.

This is getting so frustrating... Wish someone could just help me find me a nice 87 GTA or Trans Am TPO W6 and preferably T-Tops for around 10k

Damn. That was a nice car for the money. Keep you eyes on the cars that get posted on this site though. Tons of nice ones and usually they're well priced for the TG community

No way in hell I'm paying $11k for a car that has those cosmetic issues. Screws in the console? Come on...

There is one in my neck of the woods that seems nice from the listing. $14.5k asking price is a bit more than you want to spend but there may negotiating room. It's been listed a while.

With the ever increasing popularity of these cars the price is going up even on cars in this condition. You might not pay that but someone will. Good luck with the search.

Agreed. Ridiculous. If that car sold for near asking price somebody wanted that color combo. Car will need thousands of dollars to fix all the issues. You’ll find a better deal/car

Hands down one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone is asking top dollar for a subpar car that is cobbled together when a lot of the issues could have been fixed right, but they were too lazy, and now the part is ruined. I've fixed separating firebird consoles more times then I care to remember and other then being time consuming is really not that hard of a job.

Re: Wanting to purchase this GTA, but not sure of the asking price
Exactly. I have bought a few cars that someone put lipstick on just to move them. On the other hand though I have gone to look at, and bought, quite a few third-gens that the seller just didn't know what they really had. Case in point I just picked up a parts camaro that was supposed to be an '85 Z28 automatic, but in fact is a California release '87 RS that came from the factory as a manual. Sort of a rare car in its own, but it doesn't have a title, and who really wants to restore an '87 RS with a 2.8...
