Cheapest way to get tires/wheels on my ride
New to the forum,
I bought a 91 firebird formula last august (2019) no motor no trans. I spend the winter building the motor/trans and am almost done. This forums been a lot of help thanks.
The car came with some throw away 14” steel rims with different size tires, bald tires, tires that don’t hold air etc. The guy I bought the car from sold the wheels he had on it and just slapped these on so the car could be moved around.
I had plans to spend around $2k on wheels and tires but this whole corona thing has me thinking it be a bad idea to drop that kinda dough right now. At least right now. In a couple months...who knows.
Id like to find a cheap option to get down the road and be able to give this car a drive.
A craigslist search only brings up one option, which happens to be stock 91 gta rims. But the tires are shot. I don’t wanna spend $200 on rims and then $400-600 on tires, I might as well spend the whole $2k at that point.
What other Tires and rims will fit this car? S10, Grand Prix, Grand am, bonnevllle, etc?
Just something to put a couple hundred miles on. Or do I suck it up, spend the money the hope the economy swings back up quick.
What’s your thoughts? Thanks

that would be stealing and that’s just wrong. How dare you suggest breaking the law. I would never do such a thing.
on a side note it’s suppose to be nice out tonight so you might wanna park your third gen outside preferably in a dark unwatched area. You know what I’ll just come keep an eye on it. What’s your address?
alright alright not much options for cheap wheels/tires. Guess I’ll have to pony up the dough

Anything that looks decent, regardless if it's stock 15s, 16s, 17s, or larger, nothing is cheap anymore. The smaller sizes have fallen so far out of popularity that the prices have gone up. Some of the narrower 16" tires are cheaper than 245/50s, but really you can get 17s for not much more than 16s.
You don't want my tires, they're easily a decade old.

I think you should just wait and get the wheels and tires you want. Especially if you’re only hoping to use them a couple months. If you get something just for now, you’re wasting money. A few part places are having sales right now. Maybe look into buying what you want online & ship to your house.

Check Amazon for your tires. Ive bought tires from there for years and saved big-time!
