Do you guys hate my 88?

Well im new on here, but i know mostly everyone on this hates bigger rims then 20's on our cars, but im wondering how bad mine looks to you guys. It's an 88 t-top iroc, and its on 24 inch irocs, and yes i know that the tail lights are from a SC, it didnt have a bumper or tail lights, so i just went with the cheapest ones i found. It was an empty shell when i bought it for 500. But its still a project car, so dont judge the paint or tint, but i put the rear end, tranny, engine, wiring, and interior in it and it was all done by myself in my front yard lol. Sbc 350, rebuilt and shift "kitted" 700r4, and rebuilt better geared rear end. A lil better then stock with the performance side even with 24's on it. But yeah lemme know if it is ugly or ok looking in how it sits, thanks aha 😊

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

Like you said, it's a project car and you will be doing some more work with it. But as far as the wheels go, I personally would not go larger than 18".

Car is definitely an acquired taste. It's not too far gone though. Throw some 18's on it and enjoy!

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

If your into big rims, I'm sure you could put 20's on it and people won't hate you. I personally am not a fan of rims that are so big you have to lift the cars suspension to have them

Well i can still turn great, i haven't lifted it, and i love how it sits, so i dont see what makes it so bad, i mean im going for like a resto-mod look, you know, i wanna drop it more and get some better staggered rims though

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

I would put this look right up there with the 4WD Camaro, where they take the body and put it on a Blazer frame. Not my liking. I agree it's a Hot Wheel's look. Not for me.

However, it's your car and if that's the style where you're at and you like it, do what you want. Just don't get all worked up when you run into people that like to share their opinion of your car.

I like getting other opinions, especially from other 3rd gen owners, but yeah i mean i aint lifting it and making it look stupid like some ive seen, so i wouldn't consider mine similar to them cause my ride height is still nice, and im still keeping the sleek and perfect look of the third gen Camaro.

88 happens to be my second least favorite year of thirdgen Camaro. But even with that bias aside, I hate your car, for four reasons. The two front wheels and the two rear wheels. Get them off of there STAT. Hideous.

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

Hey Vii_Maro88, I say you put the wrench time in, and you should keep in the path that makes you happy. I can assure you it does not matter what you do to your ride you will have haters, I have left my 85 IROC completely stock, and when I hang out with the big block bottle babies they hate on me for leaving the stock 305 TPI in it. So like I said you need to build it to make you happy, just imagine the world as we know it if all cars were made to Mr. Ford's original option packages..."You can have any color you want as long as it is black" a world without variation...a world without top-speed...a world without some of the best paint schemes in the world.
All I can say about your current ride is that it is unique and cool, more so that you wrenched on it yourself, so keep on-track, you can always start over...

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

Your car, do what you like. That is all that really matters.

It would be very boring if we all like and did the same thing to our cars.

Myself... I think it looks goofy and takes a lot away from the third gen in the way of performance, looks, and style.

I have a customer's car here right now with those same 24" irocs on it and I done the measurements just to see. His is not lifted, looks just about like yours. Ride height is 3-5" higher than other third gen I have out here. (I part out third gens, plus build engines and work on cars). I have 6 third gens, plus this customer's car out here.

The taller ride height kills of handling, and aerodynamics. The almost not there sidewall of tires kills straight line traction.

He, nor you have to worry about dragging the air dam or front ground effects on driveway, speed bumps, etc like the rest of us do lol.

But again each persons car is like artwork done by that person. It reflects your style and likes... If YOU like it, that's all that matters.

I will never put anything larger than 17" wheels on any of my third gens. I have 15's on my '88 camaro with 235/60 tires in front and 275/60 in rear... Again that is my style and what I like.

Heck a lot of folks on here would bust my chops for using 1977/78 trans am snowflake wheels on a third gen, but I like them on my car

I think you have a nice car and I respect the fact you work on it yourself. If you like the Donk wheels then run em. 99% of people, including myself are horrified by those rims but bottom line it is your car. Good luck with it chief.

Yknow what? I like it. Looks good to me. I wouldnt do it to my car but seems you did it right and I respect that you did it yourself. Like other people say, I'm sure it takes a hit performance-wise, especially on handling. But hey, your car, your rules.

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

To repeat what a few others have said, it's your car. Do with it what you want to do with it. Make it look the way you want it to look. There will always be people that dislike how it looks no matter what you do with it. Don't worry about other people's opinion of your car. Make it yours and enjoy it.

Since you asked... Yes. But at least you don't have to get a jack to change your oil or inspect the bottom of the car, you could just slide right underneath!

Its your car, do what you want, i wouldn't go bigger than 18 personally but if you like it then do it, my wheels are 16'' stock iroc's and I'm in the process of polishing them currently. Its your project, build it how you like it... Keep up the good work, saved one more third gen from the crusher

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

I wouldn't say hate, but I really do not like the look of any wheels bigger than 20" and especially on these cars. You do what you want obviously, there no point in asking our opinion on things if it's going to sway you because we can't tell you what to like, just what we do and don't like. If I saw that car on the street I wouldn't know whether to laugh, or cry. And that's my honest opinion. But if that's what you like, then that's cool. You seem to have a lot of time and probably money at this point invested so just keep it going man.

Hell... I'm impressed that you know how to post photos on a forum. There are a lot of guys that's been here for years and still haven't figured out how to post photos. Then there are those that post those stoooopid-*** little photos that you have to click on to see the full image.

Anyhoooo... welcome to the site, but I hate the size of your wheels.

Re: Do you guys hate my 88?

A Camaro is a performance car. Oversized wheels drastically detract from that aspect. My personal opinion is that the thirdgen Camaro is one of the best looking cars of all time, bar none. Your addition of disproportionate wheels makes it relatively ugly. All my opinion, but you did ask for it. Also, 1986.
