Question on my wheels???

As you can tell i have the stock rims on my car (profile pic) I keep hearing that they are 15's, but the number on the tire is 255/055R-16...

I'm confused, that means the rims are 16's, but why are my wheels bigger than the stock P235/55R-16? My car is a 1991 Camaro RS, thanks!

The reason i ask, is because my tire came off the rim (tire was a it flat and i came off a curb at my girls house.)

Re: Question on my wheels???

If they're Z28 wheels, like in your profile pic, they are 16". Stock size tires are 245/50/16, but that size isn't as readily avaliable as it used to be. Probably why they have larger size tires on them.

Re: Question on my wheels???

255-50-16 is even more rare to find than the 245-50-16 size as they only came on early C4 vettes before they moved to the 275-40-17 size. You can run the 255 size, but they are going to be marginally taller and throw the speedometer off by a mph or 3.

The only difference between 16" RS and 16" Z28 wheels is the center caps - RS ones say "Camaro", Z28 ones say "Z28". Same size and width...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Question on my wheels???

The wheels on your car are z28 wheels. They all read 'camaro', none of those read 'z28' in the center. Base model wheels look like the second, 15" wheels you posted. They would have been body color with aluminum edges if they were stock on your car. Those wheels were the first third gen z28 wheels, so some of those centercaps read 'camaro' and some read 'z28'. In the later years, when 16" wheels were used on IROCs and Z28s, those were used as base model wheels.

Re: Question on my wheels???

16" wheels. somewhere i read that with those wheels the RS had 235/55R16 stock, Z28 got 245/50R16. I have the same wheels on my 92 RS, they are probably my favorite thirdgen wheel. I recommend the 245/50R16 cause i think they look best. Although i run 245/50r16 on the front and 255/50R16 on the rear. Tire rack is a great way to search tires in that size and see what is available.

Re: Question on my wheels???

anybody that carries BF Goodrich should be able to order 245s or 255s. they both come in the BFG g force sports. and the 255 also come in a drag radial. just remember the first number (245) is the width in i think millimeters. the second number is the side wall height, as an example a 50 series means the sidewall is 50% as tall as the tire is wide(i agree whoever came up with that needs a high five to the face). R is always the wheel size.
