Tire Size Question for 16x8" Iroc Wheels
I am looking at the Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials, they come in 255/50/16 and 275/45/16.
I am running the factory 16x8" Iroc wheels, I would love to run the wider 275/45 but am not sure if the factory wheels are wide enough.
Here is the sizing chart on the tirerack website:

Thoughts?

They will fit. People use 295's on the same wheels.

Re: Tire Size Question for 16x8" Iroc Wheels
Smart idea - probably not. An 8" wheel is designed to fit a 225-245 section width tire, although a 255 is a decent fit in a drag radial.
If they are true 275 width tires, that is 10.8", 2.8" more than the wheel, which becomes an issue. Typically you want to run a 275 on a 9.5" to 10" width for maximum effect. Yes, GM used 9" wheels to mount 275 tires on some of the 4th gens, but that is just silly since 9.5" fits and was available from the C4 Vettes.
Running a too wide a tire on a wheel will react like having a taller sidewall as it is allowed to move much more than it should - I'm figuring a 275-45 on an 8" wheel will act like a taller sidewall 15" one when you drive it.
My suggestion is to go for the 255-50-16 size on your wheels, it is the smartest route.

Re: Tire Size Question for 16x8" Iroc Wheels
If car is stock or under 350 torque to the wheels that 275 is not needed. Like noted the tire is too wide and will not look right and what tires u tryin to get that make 275 that's 26" tall. since the tire is too wide the width of the tire will ride up to the side walls just a bad idea. Get a extra set of front rims and get them wider
