My dream wheel would be with my future setup. HRE S101's...although they are making them in the carbon fiber barrel. If $8-9k isn't enough for the street S101's, the carbon fiber ones are priced way above that.

our bolt pattern is 5-475/120.7mm right? these websites say they have 120mm wheels, but they say they have 114.3 wheels (the exact bolt pattern of my roommates 3000GT) as well, does that mean their wheels wont fit ours?

Zach, those are not ROTIFORM wheels. They are made here in the US by CTW-motorsports. Paul actually works there and has made these wheels a direct fit for our cars.

Sorry that the way I posted seems like that now that I look at it
I know they are CTw wheels made in the the USA by Paul

120 will fit you can redrill too thirdgen bolt pattern it's a minimal difference
But depending on offset and if you need spacers might be easier to get wheel adapters
114.3 won't fit

i was using the 114.3 as an example of the fact that they used a decimal. I was hoping they didnt for the 120mm ones

Man its hard to find any wheel not made in china anymore. The problem isnt the chinese, it's the boutique expensive, VERY GOOD LOOKING Chinese wheels that are touted as "made in the usa" (when public import records clearly show these companies importing chinese wheels) and they're not approved by any independent wheel quality process, like TUV or JWL. I will put up with no JWL or TUV rating if it's a very, very well-regarded brand with a track record (literally, a record of success on actual racecars, preferably both high level and amateur) for quality products. See CCW as one example.
I like the CTW motorsport wheels because they're tested to a certain load rating for safety (owner is an Engineer which helps a lot on that end of things) and that's the only line of wheels he offers, so he doesnt have to worry about testing 30 different wheel combinations.
Chinese 3 piece wheels get real iffy... I'd trust a Chinese 1 piece wheel a long time before a 3 piece one.

As a consumer, I want to make sure the products I buy are high quality at a fair price - and are as they are claimed to be. That is why we won't sell junk to anyone, such as $100 cheap IROC knockoffs or low quality ZR1 wheels.
I can't guess about the quality of 3 piece wheels from China, but it is always smart to do your homework and ask around.

For the guy wanting the flowspec wheels, there's a cosmetically damaged set on ebay for 1K. Downside is they are 20" (19 flowspecs never made it to the market I believe)

they must have very large profits gains.. but who knows.. most if not majority of products are made out there
i run cheap wheels XXR 521 there JWL/VIA Certified
Current setup is Varrstoen ES2 Which are JWL/VIA Ceritified
both 1 piece
it pays to research as US doesnt require the strict test like Japan does IIRC all wheels solld in japan Have to have JWL Certification
but as stated if the wheel has a pure breed racing history then certification doesnt matter
ive personally scene wheels that are not certified break and it causes alot of damage but at the same time have seen good quality ones break also

Just because something is made in china doesn't mean its crap. If it's certified, it means it wont break on you. All you have to worry about is lead AHAHAHA

Road race cars (like CMC) can pull sustained 1.3g (or more) cornering during a 45 minute race, something street cars won't do.
RR cars do a lot of corner hopping, which is to jump the incline curbs to cu racing lines - street cars never do that.
RR cars can really heat up the brakes, which will cause stress through a hub area being very warm to blazing hot and the spokes and wheel barrel at a lower temperature.
Weight may slow you down to a point, but the proper wheel (in terms of strength and reliability) is what racers want. 2lbs less is useless if the wheels are toast after a 45 minute session. Ditto for endurance racers.
>>> Sure drag racing might be 1/4 mile at a time on straight, even pavement, but that may be the only place you could use marginally streetable wheels.

I'm not sure of the profit margins of Chinese wheels vs. the same thing made here in the USA, but it is always cheaper to make 3pc wheels than 1 piece ones - forged wheels. But 1pc forged wheels are stronger, yet not as rebuildable - always a tradeoff. No design is perfect, no material is perfect for every application. Carbon fiber is light, yet failure rates are high - steel is super strong, yet heavy - aluminum is expensive, yet pretty light...

You may think that intuitively, but the opposite is true for road racing applications.

The barrels on real race wheels are usually a lot thinner than on street wheels and they are easily damaged by potholes. In fact, one of my battels was damaged by a tire machining, it was dented by the hydraulic shoe that lifts the tire off. Ever see that done on a street wheel? Next to impossible.
I don't know what kind of wheels you are talking about but I'm talking about something with spin formed barrels and lightweight aluminum or even lighter magnesium centers. These wheels are modular not for looks but so that in case you do bend up a barrel (and it will happen) that you can replace it.

I ahve seen those break in competition environments. The safety factor isnt going to be as good with aftermarket replicas as they are with OEM wheels. Chances are you or anyone else will be fine with them, but I feel better with OEM stuff. I'd go with factory ZR1 wheels if I could.

for the regular average guy who just want wheels for a street car.. repros are just fine and from a street driven car ive heard of no complaints
but if its a all out autox or drag car then you would have your track shoes and then wear your nice payless shoes after anyways right lol
everybody seen cheap $500 repros or not and expensives $3500+ wheels break at the limit HRE, Volks.

Re: These would be my dream wheels, what are yours?
I don't think that, I KNOW that because I own several sets of actual racing wheels (liughtweight modular BBS wheels, Revolution RFX and my jongbloed wheels) and they all are stated as not for street use because they are not designed to take those shock loads. You can bump the kerbs or pull a lot of Gs but this does not induce the same stresses as running over a big pothole or running on a street kerb. The kerbs on the tracks are nothing like those on thje street.

Keep in mind that due to liability issues, most wheel manufacturers prominently post "for racing use only" on their wheels so that if something happens, liability is reduced.
While the curbs on a racetrack are small and almost harmless compared to street curbs (which can destroy a car if hit), most of the time when they are hit, a vehicle is traveling at very high velocities under a cornering load; unlike a pothole hit straight at city speeds. Most wheel failures on the race track are due to either contact with something (another car usually) or if something like a curb is hit like I mentioned above. Don't get me wrong, street driving can be hazardous in cratered roads - like the ones I deal with in NJ.
Not sure if except for drag racing that I would want to use the type of wheels you mention with spun barrels and ultra lightweight centers - at least not in a 3500lb f-body. 2200lb Miata, maybe...

Re: These would be my dream wheels, what are yours?
I'd rather have a larger safety margin in something as crucial as wheels. If all it takes is a little stickier tire to cause a wheel to fail I'm going to go with something else. If it was just a simple matter of street tires mean it's safe to use them then it wouldn't be an issue. It's a personal thing to me, I would rather pay a little more money to know that a freak accident is less likely when it comes to my car, my family, and my life.
i was running ebay wheel adapters and really didnt like the quality and feel of them and spent more from motertech i didnt run ebay adapters more than a week lol
i also had iroc repros and never felt safe with those either i found myself constantly checking them on long trips mind you ive never had issues but in back of my mind i think the worse lol

I would love a set in gold unfortunately every set I've seen is 4 or 5x114, and I'm guessing parts are next to impossible to find. Probably the closest thing to stock GTA wheels.
Also I would love a set of E50 BBS wheels, but they're incredibly expensive and way out of production. I doubt they'd like street duty. The mag centers are rougher, but at least parts are plentiful for them.

Also I would love a set of E50 BBS wheels, but they're incredibly expensive and way out of production. I doubt they'd like street duty. The mag centers are rougher, but at least parts are plentiful for them.

Re: These would be my dream wheels, what are yours?
I don't care for the flanges under the bolts on the southern ways, and I've only ever seen them in 16". There's a set of zero offset centerlock 16x9.5's on stanceworks that would be awesome, but only mickey thompson (I'm assuming they're not very streetable) is making 16" drag radials any more, so that leaves the overpriced kumho xs in 265/45R16. That tire's due for a update anytime now, and that size will probably be dropped. There's just not enough selection anymore to justify big 16" wheels.

yes!! finally, someone else who seems to like the classy boze wheels
I freakin love the "injected" rims they make. pricey, but I don't lan on doing wheels again for at least a decade. http://www.bozeforged.com/images/whe.../injected1.gif
I also like the "tach", "lateral g" and a few others
http://www.bozeforged.com/images/whe.../lateralg1.gif

been saving up some $ for wheels , and have don't a bit of photoshoppping of these wheels onto my car, and I like the way it looks. but for the life of me...I can't find any photos of someone with a third gen who has these wheels on their car (well I did find one photo of a blue car with the injected rims, but his looked gold, and I don't want gold, so it was difficult to photoshop that out) even on the images linked above, the finish looks flat and tinted gold/silver ish
anyone else a fan of these? especially the injected, in a 17" front and back, high polish. ? or am I just nutty? I just did a drum to disc brake conversion on the rear with nice pbr calipers and ds 12" rotors too.

thoughts opinions?
also, what is the actual difference between a "stepped" lip and a "soft" lip I think I can assume the definition, but maybe i'm wrong? soft meaning rolled and then smooth like a deep lip?

I just want wider versions of what I already have (OZ Superleggeras)
Not exactly happy that I had to go down to 235s for these wheels. At least they look nice....

Re: These would be my dream wheels, what are yours?
I am a huge fan of a few wheels BOZE makes. I am actually about a month away from purchasing some wheels for the car. I photoshopped a bunch of my top options onto photos of my car. you can view them here
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/whee...hotoshops.html
-Boze Injected
-KWC 025
-Boze Lateral-G
-Boze Boost
so in answering the original posts question.. I'd probably say my dream wheels are on of those few.. mostly Boze Injected

I'm torn. Old school classics remastered, or something totally different. Both are outta my current budget. Figures!
