245/45/16 Tires?

Has anyone ever put 245/45/16 tires on these 3rd gen firebirds and camaros? I remember years ago I had a 1985 Trans Am and always wanted to see what it would look like. Now that I have a GTA, I was curious if anyone had any pics of those tires installed.

Re: 245/45/16 Tires?

Sorry, no pics, but they look way too small. Some of the wider-treaded 225/50R16s make a good replacement, functionally, now that all the 245/45R16s are gone from the market. I have a pair of worn 225/50r16s that have 8.25" of tread width, I had these on '91 Formula 16x8s on my '84 T/A, the tires didn't look too narrow for the wheels, these being some of the widest 225/50s available, but the car looked way wrong from any angle. Just run 245/50s like everyone else, or step up to 17s. Then if you want too-short-but-wide, you can try 255/40s on 17x9s. That actually works really well, my friend has those ( Dunlop Star Spec ) on his '88 GTA, but he's looking at 255/45s for when these wear out.

I just bought my 1990 Camaro and it has stock 16 inch rims. The tag says 245/50/16 or 235/55/16. Are these going to look ok? I dont wont to put something on that looks bad.

No good choices for 235/55R16 anymore, since everyone swaps to 245/50R16, and at this point it's also less costly. I got lucky that the no-name 235/55s on my old '91 RS were actually great tires, but when they went bald, I did like everyone else and changed size. I went 225/55, and it looked wrong. Drove really well, but looked wrong.

Re: 245/45/16 Tires?

There weren't many 245-45-16 tires to begin with - it was a rear tire size for earlier 911s and would be about 1" smaller in diameter than a 245-50-16.

And to top it off, now there are very few 245-50-16 offering out there today.
