Yeah it does. Also matter where and how they were stored. They could be fine. Could be crap

Latest I read from the tire companies is, "If it is over 6 years old, do not use them".

Re: Tire shelf Life ?

A couple years ago I had a set of ice tires on my old dd that were 12 years old (origonaly bought in 1996). It was just a stock SOHC 5 spd '98 Neon, but with those tires if I rolled into WOT in 2nd gear there'd be tones of wheel spin. I even broke them loose in 3rd gear. And thats on dry pavement. They turn into hockey pucks around that age. After a couple really good burnouts the fronts regained enough grip to run on the rear but I bought new ones for the front.

stored in bags(sealed) bags. out of light. cool dry place. you can keep good tires for many years. some more then others. but you have to Keep them in Bags.

have done it with Firestones/ coopers/ and others.

the ones that stand out that fail are Mickytomson anything.
anything sweedish. and a few others.

had a set of uniroyls last over 12 years in sealed bags been running them on my truck for the last 3 years. before that sets of Firestone wildernes AT's.. remember them. damn good tires. always look new! Life time supply. I worked for Ford..LOL.

But Thats Just Me.

Re: Tire shelf Life ?

I always thought the rule was 10yrs old is the max you should run, that being said I have noticed the better the brand the tire, it will probbly hold up. My gf just bought new winters only because the ones she got with the car (Brigestone Blizzacks) were worn out, when I looked at the dot it was a 96 production, the tire did have some cracks in also
