Well, there's two different kinds of the M-Sport. The one's I put on mine were off of the M6, they have a bit more backspacing on the rear. They make an M5 version too, but they basically all four have the same backspacing as the front two on mine. Personally, I'm a fan of the dish outback, I think it looks better than the flat wheels would have on my car.

I'm gonna disagree. Looks great, sniper. I just saw your build thread, too. With the motor you built, the T-56, and the brake upgrade you've got planned that's going to be a heck of a car.

Thanks, i've had a lot of plans for it, and I've got a lot more for the future. It keeps me busy and out of trouble, and it gives me something to stay down to earth amongst all these classes. I'm really excited to see where it sits when I finish the work I'm doing right now. I don't really know what's next after that, maybe a procharger or something, we'll see.

What sort of modding? It appears that's a Stern Hyper Mesh II, and I've currently got my eye on a set of Hyper Mesh I's in 18x8.5 with 13mm offset. There's an ebay store (maxspeedperformance) currently selling various 18" low offset BMW wheels for $299 for a set of 4 (comes out to 498 with shipping and insurance, but still, a decent deal).

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing what you had to do to make them work.

dunno if it was already stated in this thread, but if memory serves the BMW pattern is like 5x120mm whereas our F-bodies have a 120.65mm or some other non-metric size along that lines so i would think that might need some modification.

Yes ,they are sterns. I had to have the hub holes on the front wheels machined out to fit over the camaro hubs. I will get some pics posted soon.

the wheels look good, id have to do something about center caps though, the dust cap would have to be hidden for me. this is good to know about bmw wheels. ill borrow the ones of my moms car one day. lol

any chance you could have used hubcentric rings instead of machining?

I'm guessing if they required machining, the centerbores were too small, not too large, which is the problem hubcentric rings would solve. That is odd since the centerbore for both the 18" and 19" varieties of the 15mm offset Stern BMW pattern rims is listed as 74.06 mm, and third gens have a 70.something mm hub.

I'm guessing the grease caps sticking out on the front hubs were the problem? If so, the centerbore on the Stern wheels must taper down much like the hubcentric rings the OP had to have bored out. If that's the case, it seems like the problem could probably also be solved with the use of a bolt-on adapter of 1/2 to 1" thickness without pushing the wheel too far out, at least on the 18x8.5 15 mm ET wheel. Right? I'd be inclined to try that before having the wheels machined. Sure, it would add even more unsprung weight (which is evil), but the wheels would be unmolested and you'd have an easier time selling them if you didn't like their look/ride or were getting rid of the car. However, I'm at work where I don't have access to my car, and I don't even own a set of Stern rims. Hence the tags around this paragraph.

I had the same problem with my wheels. They were on my brother's BMW 3 series. They have a 38mm offset. The front wheels were hitting the grease cap and hub but 1.5" wheel adapters fixed that problem. No machining required.

Well, it turns out one solution is to use the 18x8.5 with 38mm offset in the front with a spacer, and 18x9.5 with 15mm offset in the back. At least, that's what this guy did on his second gen. He had to use hubcentric rings as well.

EDIT: And, apparently, the exact same solution the poster immediately above me employed on a third gen.

Ugh. While the above may be useful to someone thinking of doing this, at this point, I'm thinking of just ponying up for a set of 245/50-16 Ecsta ASTs and dropping this whole idea. I'd been bandying about the idea of going to the Stern/BMW wheels because I like the way they look and decent tire options in our stock sizes are getting hard to come by. But if I'd wanted a Rube Goldberg level of complexity in my wheel mounting, I would have kept my Corvette wheels. For now I think I'll stick with the 16's like god and General Motors intended.

Yes the problem with mine were the fronts hitting the hub. If I had gone with a 4th gen type offset and 1.5-2" spacer it would have been fine.

But I did not want to run spacers.

if you are refering to mine, yes yours are similer, but mine have more spokes and that are curved, while yours are straight.

I looked at those also, as they were a bit less expensive, but I wasnted the more spoke look.

Actually, mine are curved. It is just not as extreme as the ones you have pictured. I was simply pointing out that they are similar to what I have. Nice taste.

Well, I'm reviving this thread, because in a round about way, I did end up lowering the car. Long story short, the Formula was totaled, and I ended up swapping a lot of the parts over to an '88 GTA that I bought with the insurance money. In the process, I switched over my C5 brakes and Koni Yellow shocks, along with a set of Hotchkis Lowering Springs (I kept the factory isolators with them). I'm now running the 10mm spacers in the rear with extended wheels studs to match, and aluminum hubcentric rings all the way around. I have PBR discs on the rear.

Here it is, the final evolution of the M6 Parallel Wheels:








I'd say it turned out about perfect for what I was looking for. Zero driveability issues with the lowered stance so far.

Thanks for the compliments ownor. And you beat me to it on the ET comment.

35 and 40mm ET wheels will not fit these cars without a significant spacer. Factory offset is right at about 0 on these cars. You would need a 1.37 and 1.57 inch spacer, respectively for those wheels to be perfect. 1.5" spacers front and rear would work just fine. It'd be best to get a set that is hubcentric on both sides if you're going to go that thick, or get a straight through F-body sized hubcentric with adapter rings like I used. That'd probably be the cheaper route. Good news is, with that much of a spacer, your center caps will clear the dust covers on the front hubs.
