IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing

Hey everyone, I tried a searching for some answers, but was getting different answers to these questions. Can someone please set the record straight?

Front iroc rims: Offset and backspacing

Rear iroc rims: Offset and backspacing. And if the offset is indeed 16mm, is that positive or negative?

If I put Front irocs in the rear, does it stick out more, or get recessed deeper?

Thanks!

Are they going on your camaro they should fit perfect, I don't think you can put the rotate the rims cause teh car wont move & the rims wont fit properly in the front.

You can put the fronts on the rear, but you can't put the rears on the front.

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing

Front is 0 offset
Rear is positive 16mm or approx 5" bs.
If you put the rears on the front they will stick IN more.

The rims are marked "Front", "Rear" in the middle of one of the spokes so you can tell.

Ahh OK. The main reason I'm asking is because i have two sets of iroc rims. I was thinking to put my spare set of 'fronts' in the rear because I am under the assumption that they'll stick out a little further. To me, it would give it a little more of an aggressive stance.

Personally I wouldn't bother.

If you want bigger wheels buy them. The idea is to have the front and rear wheels align together. Not have the back set stick out and affect the handling of the car (not in a good way).

Back in the day running a set of front rims on the rear was common the wider track helped handling

These all have 0 offset.

Would they fit fine? 0 offset means they stick out more in the rear?

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing

Yes, they will work. Making all 4 wheels the same is cheaper, and allows for a greater range of fitment for different applications. Lotta guys will actually find an extra set of stock "0" offset fronts and run 'em on the back because it pushes 'em out, as you mentioned, just a little bit.

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing

According to OER the front had a 4-14" Backspacing: https://www.oerparts.com/product/14089081.html

While the Rear had 5-1/8" Backspacing: https://www.oerparts.com/product/14089082.html

Where is this Rear Positive 16mm that @The Project mentioned coming from?

Re: IROC rims sizes, offsets, backspacing

The dirty little secret about wheels is that outside width is actually +1 inch wider than advertised width. That 8 inch wide wheel is actually 9 inch outside width. This is why doing the math with advertised width never seems to add up.

Do the math using outside width and you'll successfully be able to convert between backspacing and offset.

0 mm offset is 4-1/2 inch backspace.
16 mm offset is 5-1/8 inch backspace
