Brings back my College days.
Does it have the 8-Track option?
Is this a for real one or the guy swapped some parts on?
I mean, no console.
Guy I knew had one in white. Saw it several years ago. It was a treat to see.
You do have a BiCentenial year car.
Detroit made a BIG DEAL about that year and cars.
One of the best business years from GM.
Don't ever swap away that carb if it's original.
Tranny could, really should, be a TH400. Ask the guy where it is see what he says.

That Firebird is a REAL TREAT TO SEE!
Fun driving those cars back then.
Finally America learned a car wheels can turn.
And they asked Detroit to make the cars turn with authority.
Fast cars and decent suspensions.
AND RADIAL tires.
Engine power sucked with the Smog controls, tho.
I was in withdrawal. The previous car year I had killed my 1966 Corvette (1975). Yeah, that Corvette was quite controlably fast. Sucked I killed it going so damn slow in the fog & drove into a 90* turn on damp roads.
I had it, tho

Ked85,

The car did come with an 8-track but it was taken out by the origional owner. From what i understand was the car was being striped to be a race car or something, The motor and trans are out of a 72 Catilina, which is cool. I don't know if it's "BiCentenial" How can You tell if it is? I'm not to worried about the tranny becuase it has a shift kit. I may get a replacement consoled for it but i don't know yet.

I like the older Birds/Camaros but they handle for ****. It wil be fast but a 3rd gen will take you on a road course. Now when it comes to straight lines, you got it going on.

76 was the last year to offer the 455. As a former owner of a 77 T/A & current owner of a 76 bonnie w/ the 400/400 combo, I gladly offer up my services for any questions regarding the poncho mill

And remember, being a 76 makes it smog exempt :lala: :lala: :lala:

when the bird is on the road, I get to play with the boat

ask me how to convert it tio a 455 when your ready to rebuild the engine.

You should leave the auto tranny in and the pedals too... then you can take people for rides and push the clutch in and shift the auto manually, you could confuse the hell out of people. That would be so funny LOL

Wha ya want Tranny or shifter?
All piece of cake to get!
I shifted a Formula 400 in College, Factory Hurst T Shifter. A 77 or 78.
Felt nice.
Like my old 1966 Corvette.
My 75 Vega shifter was slightly not as secure feeling. But, I LOVED MY VEGA!
Alot of Bicentenial color packages done.
Flag themes etc.
Basically any 1976 is a BiCentenial model, some look it more than others!
Yes, get the console.
Make it right!
You did great!
IF anyone wants a 1977 Firebird in primo shape, let me know real quick!
Cheap.

Cheap and Muncie are two different words these days!
Try Close to $750 for a M-20
Try close to $1K for a good M-21
Try close to $2K for good M-22

You definitely don't want a T5 behind that motor... if it would even bolt up... I'd say M-21 or M-22 the M22 will hold up the best but it's pretty noisy, and you probably won't exceed the power rating on an M-21.

Look in Hemmings.
Or your Dad may have connections?
Old Munices, problems as they were abused!
My M-21.
Was Drag Raced in the 70's in my 1967 RS/SS Camaro Cnvert behind big & small blocks.
It popped outta fourth often.
Have rebuilt shifter.
Rebuilt tranny (infront of my own eyes).
When I get car back on road, who knows?
Be Cheaper to buy a DNE 5 speed.
2:73 rear gears and 3:15 first gear.
Grunt & gone!
PS when ya get the time machine rebuilt, pick me up!
I need several 1957-65 Corvette Fuel Injection systems! LT-1 Long blocks!! One ZL-1 long block wouldn't hurt either. A Kinsler Mechanical Fuel Injection & L-72 & L-71 complete intake systems, too!:hail: Oh alright. A Hemi Superbird 4-Speed, twist my arm. For Nevada Speed Week on the shut down freeway.

IF you do not know what I mean, Educate yourself.

my 77 had a borg-warner super T-10 in it w/hurst shifter. If you can wait, save up for a 6speed from junk yard, get new bellhousing to fit. 1:1 final drive ratio sucks on the highway, but it's cool to mash the gas pedal& watch the fuel gauge physically move definately get subframe connectors for it. That should be your first priority :nono: , then get a fiberglass hood, or make the hood scoops functional. Never, ever sell the steering wheel. If you do, you better letme have first dibs . Jegs sell the MSD6A + blaster coil kit for the HEI for $190 or so, & the HEIrecurve kits are only $8. If you do go to 4sp, make sure to get the 11" clutch plate, otherwise you might have to get used to a burning smell (been there, smelled that)

Never rev the motor past 5500 rpm, no need to. tell us how many kills youhave when your done
2 last things: they do make roots style blowers for pontiac ($2,000 or so) & take that damngarden tool off the hood

Yeah definate subframe connectors first. I'm thinking thicker swaybars too. I may want to get rid of the "high boy" spring that were put on the car.
Project 85, I'm get rid of that wheel, I don't know if you would want it it's in pretty bad shape. It's got tape and **** all over it. I'm going to get a new one from The Paddock company.
CC, I'm sure but from what i've heard that in the state of Connecticut I can't run sidepipes.(Which Sucks) I'm going find out for sure though since the car is too old for emmisions.
In the picture at the bottom of the screen those are the wheels that are on the car now i'm getting rid of them ASAP so if anyone wants them make an offer, there not in bad shape alittle surface rust, they can be repainted, i think there centerlines but i'm not sure. I think the back tire size on it right now is 325 something, i'll ship them with tires on since there in good shape. Front tires are brand new. if anyone wants the tell me.

You can have that wheel restitched.
BE SO WORTH IT!
Mid America Corvette offers that service. Send wheel, they stitch, repaint, new old wheel!
Sidepipes get tiring after awhile. Me.
Those 3 piece wheels?
Like "different" to me.
Take the tires off.
They are dead, old carcus that will split and you can sell the wheels so much easier w/o tires.
Use paint stripper on the wheels,
Let them soak and then be at spray wash place & power hose them down (like you do a greasy engine).
May turn out nice looking/throw them on ebay.
Or swap them toward the factory wheel choice.
Front bar should be over 1" & rear should be about 5/16" - 1/2".
Just put poly stuff on the factory set up and work from there.
PUT YOUR MONEY INTO NEW SPRINGS & SHOCKS POLY BUSHINGS.
Koni adjustable shocks & Moog springs. SEVERAL places make NEW leaf springs. You need new ones. I know, I shopped around for my new 1969 Custom made Z-28 leaf springs (only 4 leafs not 5!) for my 1967 Camaro convertible 4-Speed.

Here's the number for HELMS to get a NEW 1976 shop manual for your car. You'll need two.
800-782-4356 8 - 6 EST.

Now Karl, if he wants to sell me the steering wheel, who are we to interfere?

What kind of rear springs are thoe? They look like the load bearing "coil over" shocks we sell @ AZ.

Hunt downsome Rally II wheels. junk yard might be full of people who underappreciate them. If you can swing the $$$$cratch, get some honeycomb or snowflakes. theywill weigh a ton though. As for hadling, maybe you should look up a little known person such as Herb Adams & his little known creations alled FireAms or something like that . Nunzi also has good recomendations for the 2nd gens.

I have no idea what spring are in the back, all i know is there are HighBoys in front. I don't think the car came with rear coil overs, did they? Yes I will be in touch with Herb Adams, my father happens to know him very well. He helped design one of his 76 FireAm that raced in SCCA events. i've got some drawings hanging around

My 1968 Firebird 400/TH 400 had factory exhaust manifolds and welded glass packs under it, full length pipe system.
You should have heard this car while street racing.
IT WHAILED:hail: :hail: :hail:
And all they saw were my tail pipes.
That Firebird was the fastest most uncontrollable car I ever owned.

whatcha going to do with the edelbrock carb when you replace it? nudge nudge

is the car even streetable w/that cam/cr? looks like the only thing saving it is the performer manifold.

The carb is in pretty good shape, It seems like it needs a rebuild, But other then that it's a good carb. As for the cam it's streetible, the car was driven all of 2000, then it sat for a year, The kid got busted for a rusty exhaust leaking header gaskets, and collector gaskets.
If and when i get rid of the edelbrock, i'll rebuild it and send it to you for like $20.00
