For All Of The Dynomax Questions....

My Dynomax Catback system arrived today and it only cost $154.99 plus the $7.99 handling fee. For some reason Summit is charging truck frieght for the same system. It is part number 289-17493 from JEGS.
As you can see from the attatched pix it includes the intermediate pipe, muffler, tail pipes, 3 clamps, and a mounting bracket.

Dynomax CC

I figured that I might as well post a pix of the Dynomax Converter I got also. It is part number 289-15735 from JEGS. It cost $89.99 plus handling. The only thing that I will have to do is make a step down piece for it to fit onto my Y pipe.

is the intermediate pipe 1 piece? I'm picking up the same system tomarrow (sat mar 16) at jegs, and wondering if it will fit in the trunk of the bonnie.

"The only thing that I will have to do is make a step down piece for it to fit onto my Y pipe." check before you use a stepdown, i got a catco 2.5 converter, and the one side slid righ over my stock 2.25 piping, and the other side had 2.5 inch pipeing.
good choice in exhaust.... i love my dynomax... is that the super turbo? thats what i have and i love it...

ps after you remove the clamps to your current CC it likely wont slide off, dont bang it off, use a torch to make the piping red then have someone with rags/gloves puul the converter off...( watch out the stock converter may be heavier that you think and this way could burn you if u touch the hot *** cc)

Yes the intermediate is one piece. Everything came in a box about 77" long, 12" high, and 14" wide.

The converter came in a seperate box.

I will pass this along to you also any exhaust system purchased between March 1 - May 15 gets a $25 mail in rebate. Check out Dynomax.Com for details.

That shouldn't be a problem. I replaced my Converter awhile back with a Catco and it is starting to clog. Whenever I replaced it I used a Dynomax wrap around clamp it doesn't "pinch" the pipes together.

On the Y pipes here is the strange thing on my '84 the O2 sensor is in the manifold not the Y pipe so it is smaller that the Y pipe that has the O2 sensor in it. I beleive it is a 1 1/4" down to a 1 1/2" tail.

CC_Hotrod, I'm kinda confused about your picture. You show the single muffler with duel outpipes etc. but when I look up the part #s it shows the duel muffler setup.

I'm trying to figure out what parts to get and was hoping to just get a dynomax single in duel out muffler and a catco highflow cat through the mail, (2.5 in.) and have the pipes bent and installed at a shop.

Also, does the dynomax single in duel out muffler mount in ok with the stock hangers and stuff or did you need to get different ones? I read somewhere on here that one would need the V8 passenger side hanger if I remember right.

I'm trying not to stress out but I have a month and a half until my registration is up and I'll have to get the car reinspected.

77 inches long, mightfit in the trunk, otherwise it goes insde. I dremeled the cat off my Y pipe, still have the the left over cat fitting onthe Ypipe. going to do some fine cutting with the dremel to get it off.

yeah, I know about the rebate ffrom last week when I got the system for the blazer. printed out the form off the web. $49.66 ($50 -.34 cent stamp) back out of $269.64 spent, what a country , but rebates arenice!

***You are not alone on that.. I was confussed as well by the pictures, but the system is the single in dual out.

***Tom P said ahwile back about using a square V8 hanger but they include that in a hardware kit now. Maybe that is something new Dynomax has started doing for us V6 guys.

Hopefully I will get this installed today and I will try to take some pictures. It all depends on if I get the pieces for my Y pipe.

I suppose I might just get that setup then. Let us know how well that 2.5 cat hooks up to the 2.25 pipe. I'm trying to make sure I have everything covered so when I get the stuff there won't be any problems putting it on. I have enough problems already. ( just lost the key for my locking lugnuts and I still have 3 more rims to polish, that and I can't change a tire now if I get a flat)

got the exhaust today, and the box wouldn't fit in the trunk, so I left it @ Jegs. The I-pipe, however, did fit in the trunk & not sideways either. It's a big trunk. That hanger on the drivers side is whack! People WILL need to modify it to make it work. oh well, also picked up a set of jets for the bonnie while there. Even went to summit today too. just northern Auto & P.A.W. left.

only bad thing about the dynomax was no sticker in the box, yet the one for the blazer last week had it

edit: let me rephrase, my trunk on the bonnie is 3" wider than the I-pipe is long

I think they charged truck due to the "oversized" box.

they should have let you know befor hand.

i took all the stuff out of the box and put it in the trunk, with the seat folded down, the intermediate pipe fit spaciously the muffler in the rear well, along with the brackets and tailpipes...

the picture summit and jegs uses for that dynomax kit is a generic dynomax picture, the v6 kit is not shown.

there was one problem with the hangar, the drivers side tailpipe hangar did not match up with my stock hangar, i had to use an exra clamp to rig it up to my stock hangar...

What's weird is, plenty of us have ordered that system before, and only had a $10 or so "oversize" charge added. I guess it's a new policy? I should call them and yell at them

I don't think ALL V6's need the passenger rear hanger changed. You gotta crawl under the car and look at your stocker. If it's a rubber "oval", and the stock I-pipe has a "pin" that goes into a hole in the "oval", from the left-to-right direction, it's the wrong hanger.

The correct rear passenger hanger is short, and takes a flat metal tab off the i-pipe, which goes into the hanger from the front-to-rear direction. It was found on V8's with dual exhaust. I got mine from a junkyard for $5; I think they're available new from the dealer. The sheet that comes with the Dynomax system mentions it.

Oh, and RPS, that damn rebate thing happened to me TWICE. The first time I got the #17493, Summit advertised that rebate in their next catalog. The second time I bought the #17493 (a misinstallation by me wound up in a cracked i-pipe from the suspension smacking it), Dynomax ran the rebate in the 2nd Summit catalog after my purchase. Damn! I'm sure it'll happen again at least once before I die

I got everything to reduce my Catylitic Converter down to my Y pipe size but the weather this weekend was lousey and I didn't get it installed on the good side I did take the time to install the leather upgrades that I won from e-bay (Emergency Brake Handle, Gear Shift ****, & Steering Wheel)

TomP about the hanger you metioned they include one in the hardware kit but after comparing the one on a V8 car and the one provide I think that I am going to get one from a donor car. The hanger from the intermediate pipe looks like it won't fit right into the one provided.

Whenever I start the installation I will try to take pictures along the way.

Oh yeah, look at that! I didn't see that in the picture before! I didn't get a hanger with mine... that's cool. Maybe that extra pound is why Summit is now charging truck freight?

CC_Hotrod, What did you use to adapt the CC to the Ypipe. A part you bought or something you made?

I'm pretty sure the exit of the y-pipe is 2.5"... dont' forget, our cats were also used on the V8 motors. If that cat was meant to bolt into a V8, not engine code "H" or "E", it'll fit our y-pipe.

"coolrimsatleast: CC_Hotrod, What did you use to adapt the CC to the Ypipe. A part you bought or something you made?"

I bought some reducers at Advance Auto.

TomP the Y pipe on my '84 is only a 1 3/4" I am guessing that it is this size because the O2 sensor is not mounted into it. My O2 sensor is on the manifold. I have a Y pipe that is 2.5" that the O2 sensor mounts into but I had to plug that hole with a bolt and it leaks from there. I am guessing that if the O2 sensor mounts in the Y pipe it needs to be bigger so it can get a good reading. Whenever I do the exhaust system I will take a picture of the 2 Y pipes beside each other for comparison.

One question I do have is that when I changed Y pipes a few years back (due to an accident) I bought doughnut gaskets, even thought the factory ones looked more like flanged sleeves. Whenever I went to buy doughnut gaskets this time I had 2 different auto parts store tell me that they aren't required for my Camaro. What is up with that?

Ah ha, I didn't realize you had that small of a Y pipe. I'll just order it and hope the muffler shop can figure it out.
