3.1 V6 valves
Peeling the heads off my project '92 Firebird's engine, and astonished at how much dish there is in the faces of both the intake and exhaust valves. Has anyone out there built up a mild performance engine out of one of these 3.1's and found a replacement valve that does not have these huge tulip shaped dishes in them? The stock pistons are close to a flat-top design which should work fine for my on-the-cheap build, but I'm thinking the valves must be where GM lowered the compression ratio down to 8.5 and I'd like to get closer to 9.5 or 10 when done. Surely replacing the valves with flat-faced ones or close to it would be worth a solid point of compression, maybe more. I've poured through the forum and not seeing much on this exact subject. I'm aware of the 3.4 aluminum head change posts for the 3.1, but not excited about changing intakes and rigging throttle cables and kick-downs to work.
Has anyone built up a set of iron V6 heads using some flat-faced valves to up the compression and if so, where did you source them from? I've been looking on the internet for three nights for an affordable replacement valve with similar sizes to stock but not coming up with much, and I'm not buying a custom made set of valves. Only thing close I found so far is a Chevy 265 V8 valve for the ancient engines from the 50's and even it has some dish to it.
Ideas?
