1-2-3-4-5-6 firing order. umm. did you check the timing SETTING when you had the light on? With it going throuth the muffler you may be too advanced now. I know alot of people that when they go to rebuild the engine they make a scribe line on the distrib to hold down so they have a good starting refrence point of the initial start up tries. too late for that now I know but good knowlage for the future and the others that are concidering the same thing in a short while. I would check the actual timing setting. leave the distrib loose so when it actually does begin to chug.. and it will chug you can quickly move the distrib to compensate and get it better initially timed.

If the #1 cylinder is at TDC, and the rotor points to the #1 terminal on the cap, you've got 0 degrees advanced. Spin the distributor clockwise a bit to put some advance in the ignition. (I've been typing this a lot lately...?)

I've tried everything to get the car to start, it won't start. The motor is at TDC, had it pointing to the number one plug, I chanced the cap and rotor, tested the pick up coil, it fine, got a new battery. i checked the plug wire fireing order. and it still won't start, maybe it's my new carb. This so suck **** not having a car.
