Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

All this new-fangled multi-port stuff... anyone still rocking the 2bbl?

Till I find a decent 350/383 for my baby that little 100hp beast will keep ticking!

Just wish I could spin the tires a little

Awesome! Though looking at your info I'm guessing you started with MPFI?

Wondering how many are still banging around with the stock carb motor!

82-84 were all carb'ed, V6 & V8. Oddly the 4 cylinder was fuel injected though haha

Hmm. Not bad. I am assuming you can't run that stuff on a LH0 from a 1991 car, yeah?

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

I do actually. Swapped the intake for the 4 bbl Holley and I can tell you it was well worth it. Alot more bang, headers added more power. I still have the old intake and carb thrown in the backyard.

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

I didn't know they made manifolds for these! Does the car really need a 4bbl though? Must be a small one! haha

I'd like headers too but I think they're all discontinued.

Honestly I'd love to see what I can get out of this motor but I think it's just going to come out

edelbrock makes a manifold , and u can use the stock 2bbl or get it with the 4bbl top , if u get the 4bbl top u use a holley 390

the intake isnt cheap but it looks to be a good intake as it wont limit top end as much as the mpfi intake due to its much shorter runners

i would do a 260 delta cam .4bbl intake and the 390 carb , should pick up a whole bunch of power

one really nice cheap upgrade u could do is get a set of heads off a fuel injected 2.8/3.1/3.4 and bolt those one they have larger runners and valves and flow a bit more then the carbed heads , while u swap the heads do the cam as well for 100 bucks , that alone would be worth a good bit of power

one last cheap trick is to order the cheap non roller sbc 1.6 rockers or the cheap 1.6 roller tip rockers, what u do is throw away the piviot ***** that come with the sbc rockers as they have a 3/8's rocker stud hole, and just reuse the stock v6 piviot ***** in the sbc rockers , the v6 pivot ***** are 10mm stud hole, this costs about 50 bucks for the set of rockers

u can still order the pacesetter headers from summitracing as far as i know , but if u watch the classifieds here lots of v6 parts go up for sale and never get bought up

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

Cool to know the newer heads bolt up. No modifications required? That'd be something I could do easy; probably pick a pair of those heads up for next to nothing.

If I could find that eddy manifold used I'd go for it too but with V8 plans in the future I don't want to spend much/anything on this slug! haha

yup the heads bolt right on , if buying from a junkyard get a set off a 3.1/3.4 as they will prolly have less miles on them then a 2.8 set.

if u do swap the heads swap the cam as well its 105$ shipped for the cam and lifters from delta and is a worthwhile upgrade, the only thing extra u need to do to swap the cam is to get the oil pan off but since u will have the heads off the engine it will be easy to lift the engine up the few inches u need to get the pan off

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

Big problem with those was a sunken float, that filled engine with gas and then spun a bearing.

but poeple don't servie the carb's like they should, youll find many with the 2bb in the truck line also with a bad engine suddenly and no one puts 2 n 2 together.

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

I remember my old 84 Firebird with the 2.8 carbed. It was given to me by my sister, because she didn't like it( it was her first car that she picked out). I think my civic would leave it, it was slow as crap. The body and interior were pretty good though...the interior was flawless. I was 16 at the time and my mom drove the car to the store one time......hit the brakes and it pulled hard. The instant she did that, I was told I couldn't keep the car. It also tended to not want to start a lot. Electrical issues. It had tons of wires not hooked up to anything under the hood. Paint job was terrible, but looked good. They didn't mask anything off. All the lights were blue.

Had $1500 on it....ended up selling it to my brother for $300 down and payments for $1000. I only got $300 before he ran it with no water in it and seized it up. I wish I would have just kept it and motor swapped it looking back. At the very least I'd still the interior.

If you like those rockers so much, you can have my set of 1.6 roller tip when I find someone to sell me a set of stock small port 3100 roller fulcrum non adjustables. I hate the ones I have sooo much. They rattle like crazy even being set to the point where the engine has max compression, they're still loose on the pivot points and rattle side-to-side.

My advice is don't...

As for the headers. It's not the PaceSetter's that are hard to find. They're literally everywhere. Try finding Hookers (or whichever other brand that was the only headers available for the 2.8 F-body for years until they stopped making them before PaceSetter picked up the slack).

Upgrading the intake and exhaust alone will net big gains. I know for a fact that the exhaust crossover pipe on the older 2.8s is a smaller diameter than a FI pipe and may not have a bung for an O2S. And that's stock as far as I know.

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

A cheap trick for a little more power with those that have the stock 2bbl. is to grind the tab that limits the secondary from opening up all the way. And flip flop the air cleaner lid.

I did this over twenty years ago.
In the picture theres a circle around the secondary linkage, open the secondary flap by hand & see what's keeping it from opening all the way (flap should be vertical when all done).
I remember it was a piece of metal on the linkage arm that limited the opening angle.

Re: Any carb'ed V6 guys left?

shouldn't Doug Roe made comment as since the top air valve is connected to the needle, you can slap it wide open and have exact metering.

a deisng you may have seen put into a new Qjet if he lived longer. As that 2bb is just a qjet cut in half and then upgraded.

Doug Roe deisgned the Qjet for GM, his baby
